I would love to work at a magazine. I strongly believe that everyone has a natural born talent, and I think writing is mine.
Working at a travel or fashion magazine would be the ultimate goal. I realize that I would have to work from the bottom up, but that's perfectly fine with me.
Does anyone have any tips (majors, possible colleges, internships, exposure, etc) that would help me to accomplish this dream of mine?
Thanks!

Here is everything you need: one of the top 10 journalism schools in the country with a magazine journalism major: [E.W. Scripps School of Journalism - Magazine Journalism](<a href=“E.W. Scripps School of Journalism | Ohio University”>E.W. Scripps School of Journalism | Ohio University). Internships are a big part of the program and information is also on this page. For exposure, you want to create/participate in/write for a student magazine. Example, from Scripps: [Backdrop Magazine](backdropmag Publisher Publications - Issuu)

It is an incredible program, but very competitive to get into. How are your stats?

Just looked at a previous post that said you had a 29 ACT. I think you’ve got a great chance. If working at a magazine is your dream, then I think this would be your dream school.

I know many people who have gotten terrific fashion magazine jobs in NYC coming out of Syracuse University’s Newhouse School with a major in magazine journalism.

Is a journalism major pointless though? I get the impression that people think that a journalism major is a bad idea since apparently, magazines and newspapers are dying. :/

It may be very hard to reach your dream of working at a magazine because many magazines are having financial difficulty and are greatly reducing their fulltime staff members, and are hiring freelancers instead.

That’s exactly my main concern. I just don’t know what other route to take with my life. :(

Journalism is one of the lowest paying fields!! I’ve had a few jobs in the industry already. Broadcast would be the way to go. As far as print, I say you need to fous on new media, like internet stuff.

What about public relations? That would allow me to use my writing skills and it wouldn’t get boring either. Thanks for the help, it’s much appreciated!
