This is an odd thought I’m having at the moment and the title might be misleading so please forgive me, but does anyone ever feel they have reached their potential in pretty much all their current high school activities? I don’t mean to say I’m the best at everything, but merely that I have tried many activities for many year (e.g. science Olympiad for 5 years and always reach the same level of getting 3rd or 2nd at regionals). I prepare differently each year, tried different teams, different events, but the result is always the same.
The reason I tried various clubs and activities (band, newspaper, HOSA, BPA, science Olympiad, science fair) is because I love to explore, but as soon as I reach a certain level in any activity (usually 2nd or 3rd year in it or advancing to the same competition multiple years) I find myself feeling like I don’t have any growth potential left. I really enjoyed being on my school newspaper at the beginning of this year, because I love to write, but now dread the class everyday because I’m tried of just publishing the same old stories about the same old things. I guess what I really mean to ask is, how can you sustain interest in activities/clubs? Is it just me who has an initial fascination with something and am genuinely interested in it, but soon get tired of it? Have I just not found the right thing?
