To A.P. Chem or to not A.P. Chem

Hello,

I am currently a sophomore and am currently in Honors Chem. I just did my course selection for the 2014-2015 school year at my high school. My Chem teacher recommended me to take his A.P. Chem class next year.

My teacher is pretty laid back. Last year, the A.P. Chem exam passing rate, of at least a 3, at my high school, was a 0%; nobody passed. And these same students managed to grab a 85% passing rate on the APUSH exam.

Is it worth taking a class you are very passionate about from a teacher that tells stories of how he never wanted to be a teacher?

I don't feel comfortable going to my guidance counselor about this.

If you’re passionate about it, you could take it and just study on your own a little extra to pass. I’d take it over completely self-studying cause AP Chemistry is good to have as a class, plus the lab experiments help.

I don’t know how bad the teacher is, but AP Chem made me like chemistry more.
