To all deferrals: Believe me, it happens for a reason!

I applied ED to Princeton, and was deferred. At first I was crushed. I had thought that Princeton was the best school for me, with the prestige, the professors, the eating clubs. . .

Wow, was I wrong. I just got back from a visit to Notre Dame yesterday, and I thank God that Princeton deferred me. For me, everything about ND was perfect: the sports, the spirit, the community, the alumni connections, everything! To be sure, Princeton is far more prestigious than Notre Dame, but after visiting the schools, only one of them grabbed hold of me.

In short, some of you who got deferred will get into Princeton. The majority (like me) will probably not. DON'T WORRY! Everything happens for a reason; you are all outstanding students and you will LOVE the school you eventually go to.

Best of luck to all of you in the future months.

That's absolutely true. When I found out I was deferred, I felt exactly how you felt. Then, I decided to move on and applied to other colleges. That's when I fell in love with other two schools-their social life, academics, atmosphere, the community, the faculty. I feel that these schools really fit my personality, and I know that I'll be happy there. I just realized that I applied to Princeton for wrong reasons: its academic reputation, its high graduation rate, and its prestige. But, I didn't ask myself: Will I be happy? Is it a right school for me? I doubt it; nonetheless, I still applied although I started to have second thoughts.

Being deferred made me become more open-minded to other amazing opportunities. It's awesome.

I was not crushed when I was deferred. Yea, a bit disappointed but probably due to the fact that I was going to have to write 6 more essays! I did not apply to Princeton due to the prestige, but only because it was the 'best fit' for me. In all honesty, it was the ONLY school within decent driving distance from my home that met my criteria: Financial aid + medium size + my major + my No. 1 EC. However, in order for Princeton to be a good fit for ME, I also have to be a good fit for THEM.

I honestly feel all of us will end up at the school where we are meant to be. I think the admissions does a good job and if they feel an applicant might not fit in, succeed or be happy at their school -- they will not admit them. It should not be taken personally. Also, wouldn't you want to get accepted based on your own merit? Not having to use a hook to get you in a place that would not have accepted you without the hook?
