applied to: UCB, UCLA, UCSD, American University, Georgetown University, and NYU.

will be IGETC & TAP certified for UCLA for the honors program by the end of spring 09. A's in all prereqs for poli sci, taking poli sci 5 at Santa Monica college in spring so ill be good to go for UCLA. Will have about ~68 units transferable by the end of Spring.

I SERIOUSLY HOPE I GET IN :(

Does it matter which pre-reqs you have done?
If you go to ASSIST, it says that as a pre-req, u need to take two political science courses from either Poli sci 2, 3, 4, 5 and that Poli sci1 must be taken at UCB.
I have done Poli sci 2 & 3 because I don't think my cc offered 4 & 5, since assist says "NO COURSE ARTICULATED" for poli sci 4 and 5 when i put in my cc to UCB.
Would students who have done ALL of the poli sci 2, 3, 4 and 5 be at an advantage???

Transferring from Santa Monica College and College of the Desert
Transferable GPA: 4.0
Overall GPA: 3.84

I worked for a non-profit but besides that have little experience with Poli Sci, although I always read the news and political commentary. I decided only last semester that I wanted to do Poli Sci, but I'm REALLY into it now. I wish I would have decided sooner... I would have taken more Poli Sci classes.

Go Poli Sci majors!! Are you guys all pre-law? Or are you just into Politics? I'm not Pre-Law, I want to go into Public Policy or Public Administration.

MJK0330, I think you are well prepared having completed the pre-reqs. I can see a benefit in doing more than the required Pre-Reqs, but you are not required to (especially if the courses are not offered at your community college).

well i did 4/5 of the poli sci pre-reqs.. Just did it.. you only need 2 for cal.

Thanx guys! U both have high gpas and good ECs, things r looking gd for u :)
I REALLY want to take the other pre-req courses too at other CCs that offer them, but I have no car and I will have to work soon so I won't be able to.. :(

I'm transferring from GCC,
my gpa is 3.7
I've done a lot of ECs,
will be done with IGETC and 60 UC transferable units.

I just wish I found out about TAP sooner and done it.
I came from New Zealand in Jan last yr and so I was really in this whole CC to UC transfer thing on my own! :(
But I've done my best and fingers crossed! :-) Oh! and yea I'm pre-law.

I took a look at the stat finder on the university of california website and the admissions rate for gpas between 3.2-3.5 and Cal admitted around 55 people with those gpas, what are my chances? I posted my stats earlier..

thanks

MJK0330, I think you are in a good place having completed the Pre-Reqs. I know people who get admitted not even having completed their pre-reqs, so I wouldn't worry. The only way you might be able to do courses at another community college might be via the internet. But, again, it is not required and you have already shown that you are a unique candidate with all of the ECs and a high GPA.

BBlack, I think it is also great that you have done a lot of ECs. I think that your GPA may be slightly on the low side for UCLA and CAL, but you definitely have a good chance.

Cal and UCLA both read your essays and for CAL they matter a lot (at least that is what I have heard). I think with having completed the pre-reqs, done such great ECs and good personal statement, I think you are both in a good place. But, I'm not in an expert on these things. Just an independent opinion! Good luck, everyone!

the only thing is if i get into ucla, will i have to take stats 10 their? Im taking stats 227 at LA Mission college which isn't their agreement for the major but at pierce they have stat 1 which is used for poli sci, so will i have to take stat1 even though im already taking a statistics course this spring?

Palomar, miracosta, sd mesa

Poli sci major, all UCs except merced and SC.

Transferable gpa 3.38 (7 As 7 Bs and one C)

Completed 5/5 prepatory classes with 4 As and a B.

A ton of work and ECs, including a lot of political.

Went to boys state.

Will complete igetc this spring and finish with 102.5 units (20 AP credit) what do you think?

Transferring from : Skyline College/College of San Mateo
GPA: 3.74 (TAP certified)
EC: President/Co-Founder of Democrats Club on-campus, volunteer for old high school’s debate team, volunteered on campaigns, work part time at retail store, eagle scout (lol, i know), and other small things

Applied to : UCLA, CAL, Georgetown, UCD, UCSB, UCI

I only have 41 units done as of now, but by the end of spring, I’ll have 60. Pre-req wise, I have 2 of the four offered at my cc district (both with A’s). Currently taking 1 with the other 1 being canceled due to the budget cuts. Took 9 classes first semester and ended with a 3.8 GPA. This semester, I’m taking 7 classes which amounts to 19 units. I know ive asked this many times before, but chances? lol

I just found this on my assist articulation agreement -
“At minimum, you should complete three preparatory courses by the spring term prior to transfer. All courses must be taken for a letter grade.”

i guess i barely make minimum? lol

has any political science majors gotten into anywhere so far? if so, where?

Yeah, I got into UCSD as a political science major.
