To Apply or Not to Apply

I am currently a sophomore in the business school at Fordham. I took college courses back in Southeast asia so I managed to transfer it over at Fordham.
I'm considering transferring to NYU CAS as an econs major. NYU has been my dream school and the only school I would like to transfer to.

Long story short, I never applied to NYU previously because I was told my grades weren't good enough and I'm a guy with very low self-esteem.
I'm fine with Fordham but in terms of diversity and location, it just doesn't fit me as well as NYU. This whole semester I've been visiting The Village once a week for some coffee with some friends and each time I go there, it feels me with regret for not applying. (as stupid as it sounds, it's really been bugging me)

Currently I have about 45 credits so I wouldn't have to send in my SAT score (did pretty bad at it- around 1750) and this is my first semester at Fordham but I got about 3.2 GPA. Will a great essay and being able to pay for full tuition pull it off?
Realistically I know my chances are slim, but are they so slim that it isn't worth my time applying to NYU?
If it's really slim, I would appreciate someone to PM me to personally break my dream of going to NYU so that I can move on.

I suggest you just apply. It’ll cost you lots of time and some money, but it’s better to have at least tried than to spend the rest of your pre-professional career wondering what would’ve happened if you had just taken a risk.

You’ve demonstrated success in a rigorous curriculum at a very good school so I say go for it. Passion and demonstrated interest counts at NYU. Wishing you good luck!

I would suggest that you apply. I am in a similar situation and feel that I need to go somewhere that is a better fit for me. Coincidentally, my GPA for the first semester and second semester was 3.2 (because of two Cs for spanish). But I’ve managed to pull it up to a 3.4 this third semester. So if you don’t get in this time, you could try to raise your GPA and try again next semester or the semester after that…I think a 3.2 at Fordham is the 50th percentile.

Your ability to pay full tuition will probably help. Also, the transfer acceptance rate for guys is higher (40% vs 13%)! I guess they are trying to balance the guys to girls ratio
