<p>Do I need to fill out this section of the supplement if I listed Biochemistry as my first choice major & Physics as my second choice?</p>
<p>In other words, does Biochem = Chem and does a 2nd choice major = primary interest</p>

<p>I suppose it doesnt hurt if you have great answers to the questions. Just go with answering for Biochem. I would assume 2nd choice would be then considered a secondary interest, no?</p>

<p>you don't have to answer those questions for biochem. at first i had chosen chemistry but when i hit save on common app it told me that i didn't fill out the required field (tried putting it second too but they still consider it a primary interest...). but when i clicked biochemistry instead it didnt prompt me to fill it out</p>

<p>You should fill it out. Any opportunity you have to sell yourself is an opportunity worth taking, and while admissions may not have caught on to the fact that biochemistry is often essentially chemistry, it is.</p>
<p>You can be a biochem major and take half the number of bio courses as you do chemistry courses, do research in the chem department, and have all of your advising through chem. About 1/3-1/2 of biochem majors do this.</p>
<p>I personally would not do it. Primary interest means your first interest. If it is your second interest, it is then obviously not your primary interest and you would be disobeying the instructions. If I were admissions officer, I would think twice if someone did something like this, although I do realize it's a chance to see more, you should always follow directions on something this formal.</p>
