Honestly, they do NOTHING. Aboslutely NOTHING. No one on a site can predict your chances for admissions. Admissions is very very random, especially when it comes to top schools.

Stop fussing over chance threads and college confidential, and just go out and do what you got to do. Its a much more efficient use of time.

This is just my 2c intended to HELP you applicants. Take it or leave it is up to you.

lol sorry but i think this thread is pretty pointless. everyone does chances threads, whether to actually check, or to pass the waiting time, or to calm nerves - whatever. really no need to discourage people from it, it's pretty much gotten to be part of the whole college process nowadays.

edit: oh, and sometimes, this early on, they can be helpful because people can suggest what areas to try to strengthen. no, no one here is a college admissions rep, but weve all had to deal with the college adissions process and thats something these kids havent had to do yet, and some dont have even the SLIGHTEST clue how to go about it all (i know i sure didnt! and maybe that's the exception but still, the point is, it does no harm).

agreed.....
there are two types that I am sick of:

1) chances
2) i-banking

but believe or not, you can get some tips occasionally

I completly agree. Asking random people who don't know anything more about your chances than you do is a waste of time. I wasn't on these boards, or any other when I applied for college, but it's really not difficult to figure out schools at all. There is so much data online: compare your stats with the stuff you find. CollegeBoard.com has everything you'll ever need, and other sites like US News are great as well.

Mor than of the threads I see are people with near-perfect GPAs and great SATs (or they just don;t know their SATS yet...so nobody can tell then anything useful) who will almost defently get in anyways. For all the rest, applications are unpredictible. Everybody knows that. Spend the time writing half decent essays instead. And, for your own sake, if your SATs suck, then improve them, don;t ask if you can get in.

I know it's stressful, but it's not hard...everything you need is readily availible on the internet. I'm pretty sure everyone here has internet connection.
