I’m seriously about to cry right now:(.

Don’t worry, homer314. A girl from my school applied before me (by about a week), and I was contacted for an interview ~3-4 weeks before she was contacted. In the end, we both got interviewed.

It’s not like everybody from one school is interviewed by the same person. From what I know, applicants are put into a random lottery system and are assigned interviewers. Different alumni have different time schedules, so depending on their availability, they may contact applicants ASAP or later on. Don’t stress out about it.

Personally, I don’t think there is a correlation between how strong of an applicant you are and whether or not you are contacted for an interview, but that’s just my opinion. Everyone else feel free to comment on this-I’d like to hear what you think.

I finished mine in mid-December, and I got contacted for an interview a few weeks later. I actually had to run and check to see when I submitted my application. I could have sworn I procrastinated more… :)

Apparently, in my region, we had to have submitted our apps by Dec. 27th to have an interview…and no one ever mentioned that beforehand.

I know interviews don’t count for much, but like homer, I’ve never heard of anyone being accepted without an interview. And if interviews aren’t necessary, seeing as how average interviews have no effect, why would any applicant (particularly if they aren’t the most charismatic people in the world) waste time and stress over to do them?

I applied on the 27th and my interview is tonight (it was originally scheduled for last Tuesday though).

Chances are, you were assigned a different interviewer. Also, have you checked your spam box? Sometimes emails end up there.

I checked my spam, double checked it.

skateboard: Has anyone contacted Harvard directly or called their regional alumni chairs about interviews?

Could someone please answer this? I’m an international “in an area where we have a limited number of interviewers compared to the number of requests/applications we receive.” Would it hurt to contact them to ask for an interview? And then, who exactly should I contact? What email address?

pok992 they explicitly state that if you live in one of those listed Countries, you should do no such thing. They will contact you if there are adequate volunteers. Until such a thing occurs, I believe you should assume that an interview was not possible.

I applied even later and had my interview on January 19th. Probably because there are a lot of alumni who live in SF. Don’t worry, some people get notified pretty late into the admissions cycle. And if you don’t get one, it won’t negatively affect you.

Here’s just my opinion and it’s what I would personally do in this situation:

If you still haven’t had an interview, believe you have the stats such that you’re serious about applying to Harvard, and would love to have one so much that you’re making one thread after another on CC to ask about it and stressing over it, then consider contacting either the Harvard alumni club in your area or someone whom you believe is in charge to see if it’s possible to arrange for an interview. Even though Harvard doesn’t consider interest at all in its admissions process, there’s necessarily anything wrong with expressing a little interest.

Don’t phrase it as “why is it that I applied so early and never got an interview offer?!!” but rather as something more gracious along the lines of “I’m very interested in Harvard and would love to have the chance to hear more about school through the eyes of an alumnus. I know that interviews are not possible for everyone in all areas, but I’m willing to travel far if offered an interview opportunity, thank you for your time, etc etc.” I mean, the worst that can happen if you proactively ask for an interview is that they never answer you or tell you no, merely putting you back to exactly where you’ve started in the first place.

I found the Harvard club in my area, as well as the person who interviewed my friend. I won’t contact the same man, but I’m considering emailing the club president with some sort of very non-provocative message.

This other guy on another thread received likely letters from Harvard AND Yale… apparently he wrote the most nonchalant essays ever. I have an excellent resume, and I’ve certainly been brash about it here on the boards (I apologize), largely because of the four years of my life I’ve dumped into them. My essay was not brash, but it was very “presenting” of who I am and why I’d be an excellent part of the class of 2015! :(
I somehow feel that because of my somewhat unmodesty in my essays, they won’t even give me the time of day for an interview. Of course this is speculation, I will never know for sure.

I’m wondering, if it’s true (as the other poster said) that applications submitted after the 27th do not quality for interviews? This would seem a bit strange, just four days before the actual deadline… do they assume students who do not submit before the 1st are just not prepared or interested? Certainty not true with me!

Thanks for the posts btw. I’ll shutup now for the time being :):o

^As the poster said, it’s only for his/her area. I applied on the 28th and still got an interview. You should calm down, homer. There’s no use in worrying anymore. Everything is basically done, except for the interview (if you ever get one). Chill out. Enjoy your senior year. If you’ve worked hard, your application will speak for itself. No need to freak out if you don’t get an interview. I’m sure they won’t penalize you for that.

Homer - I applied Dec. 30 and had an interview the last weekend of January. In the contact email, though, my interviewer said he wanted to have the interview ASAP (like he contacted me on Friday, and we met on Saturday) because they (I’m not sure if he was referring to the admissions committee or the regional office) wanted his report by the first week of February… hope this helps
