To everyone with a good ACT score..

I would love to know how you do it.. I get stressed when I am timed and, I screw up.. Also, do pple have a high score from studying their butts off or just b/c their super smart.. I had a 4.0 until I took a Chem 1 class @ our community college and got a B.. I feel like I catch on pretty easy to things and, am fairly smart but, my ACT score is just average.. Would love any advice anyone is willing to share.. :)

I would say mainly, DON’T STRESS. Assuming you’re a junior, you have time to take it again and again, so next time you take it, treat it as you would a practice test. When I took it the first time, I took it without practice and expecting to do average, so I didn’t stress over it at all. The result of this approach of mine was scoring much higher than I had wanted or expected- even higher than my PLAN test had predicted. But believe me, I stress myself over just about every other area in my life. This may be tough to do, and I understand because simply telling yourself not to stress about something never seems to work. But try

As for tips on each section, here are my tips

English: make sure you understand all grammar rules and laws! I’m sure there are plenty of resources to do this. And look for redundancy!

Math: I guess practice algebra and geometry if you aren’t already quite confident in those subject areas.

Reading: read FAST. I’ve heard you should read the questions first then look for the answers in the text, or simply skim, but I don’t know. This section was my downfall as I didn’t read fast enough and by the time only five minutes were remaining, I hadn’t even glanced at the last passage.

Science: just read the questions first and honestly just know how to interpret graphs.

Above all, work quickly! It is in your favor to go as fast as you can without making dumb mistakes. Skip questions that you know will be more challenging or take you longer as you have the opportunity to return to them later. Also, if you work quickly enough, you will be able to check your work in the remaining time.

Best of luck!

Confidence is very important.

I also did logic puzzles before taking my final ACT, such as chess puzzles and what not.

Thanks for the help Sarahj I will try… Just like you said since I am a junior I will just try agian if i do really bad…lol
