I am graduating from a high school in Quebec (Canada) this spring and enrolling into UF in the Fall. The school system in Quebec is different, so I'm one year behind academically.(accepted at UF because of a sport scholarship special case). I still got 49% in the math placement exam. I will need MAC2311 because I want to do Pre-health... I was wondering if I should retake the placement exam so I could take MAC1147 (requires 50% in placement exam) then MAC2311 or just go with MAC1140 & 1114 then 2311?

I must have a high GPA, as I want to do Medicine.

hmm let’s see…think about it. If you are not that strong in your math skills would you want to take a fast paced class that combines two subjects, over taking each subject individually at a slower pace? Decisions decisions…

^Totally agree with above poster. I don’t think there is much of a decision. My friend’s son is a freshman this year, he took the math placement test before starting at UF and according to the test he qualified to take a higher math class than his experience would have suggested. He took the higher class, struggled terribly, and failed the class. He didn’t tell his parents because he kept thinking he could pull it off. Math is something that builds on itself, skipping ahead to a class you’re not ready for is a recipe for disaster.
