To help those doing TAP for UCLA

This doesn't really help those who have already applied, but meh, the more you know.

Finish up your prerequisites for both your primary and alternate majors, and PLEASE put an alternate major. And PLEASE make sure that the alternate major is a non-impacted major at UCLA.

I've seen many people either not put an alternate, or not finish the alternate's prereqs, or put an impacted major as an alternate and get rejected. And naturally they're surprised; either they didn't do their research or their CC's TAP counselor is really stupid. TAP is NOT a guarantee...it's just viewed as such because you get a second-chance major with priority (usually accepted).

I have never seen anyone get rejected with TAP if they had all of the above requirements and at least a ~3.2/3.3 GPA. If anyone out there from previous years has gotten rejected with everything completed, do post in this thread. I am genuinely curious if there's anyone who falls into that category.

I stupidly put an impacted major as alternate. But my primary major is non-impacted.

Hopefully you’ll get in with your primary major then! haha What’s your major/GPA?

wait people have gotten rejected because they didn’t pick an alternate major O___O;; ???

@sunny: Yes and no, if you’ll excuse the expression lol. If you get in with your primary right off the bat, then there’s no need for them to look at your alternate, if you even have one. You don’t NEED an alternate, but that’s roughly 50%, if not more, of the benefits of TAP. It’s a last-ditch effort into getting into the school, get it? Obviously it’s in your benefit to put an alternate, but it’s not mandatory; simply recommended.

so would it be best to finish the pre-reqs for alternate major by the time u apply (so basically by summer, if u r applying fall)? also then, what is the point of putting ur primary major when you TAP if ur alternate major is the priority? meaning wouldnt there be really slim chance of getting into primary then?

It would be best to finish prereqs for the alternate major by the fall semester you’re applying, just like for every other major. The schools get to see that you’ve completed and passed your prerequisites.

Both primary and alternate majors are given priority, not just alternate.

TAP:

-Priority for major #1
-If not accepted, priority for major #2

But if i finish the pre-reqs by fall, then they would see if i have completed and passed my pre-reqs with my spring grades also cuz ill be applying around november so by then i still wont be finished wit my pre-reqs so they will only be able to see it after i apply with spring semester. is this what u r talking about?

They’ll see your fall grades when you apply since you have to update them.

then should i do that to my primary major also? or should i finish the pre-reqs for my primary beforehand like by summer as i have elaborated above?

I put an impacted major for both primary and alternative lols. I didn’t really have another choice. I’m a biology major (impacted) and dont want to major in some random social science, so I put both my majors as different bio ones lols.

^ I put an impacted major for alt, and a non-impacted major for primary, lol. I’m not sure what my chances are considering the pre-reqs I have not done, but I am doing TAP, so…

sheesh! can someone answer my question?!

Just finish all the prereqs for both your primary and alternative. But I would make sure to have your primary ones done over your alternative major.

so primary also by fall??

oo would it be alright if I finished my pre-reqs for my primary major by the end of the spring before I transfer oo. can I still be TAP certified then…
