We’ve got 35 people, including guard, drumline, and pit. Our current band director, who we’ve had for two years, is really good and has completely revamped the program so that now we actually do well at competitions… adding discipline, increasing rehearsals and competitions. Due to parent complaints about her being too strict, and her sometimes not agreeing with the administration, she’s leaving at the end of this year, which is a total loss to everyone in band.

I’m so excited for band next year, but I’m immensely nervous about who the new director will be (they are still in the process of interviews). If our director is bad, then the band will slip back to normal… and for our band, normal is terrible.

The majority of the band really liked her, and then there were a few mixed in who didn’t like actually having to work to be in band, and they all got their parents to complain a lot, and that’s part of the reason she’s not coming back. They made it difficult for her to do her job and administration didn’t really seem to like her that much. She did sometimes act immature though… I think it was ultimately a combination of factors that lead to her departure, with her actual job performance not being one of them. I think officially she resigned, she was probably asked to do so.

and there’s this cool jazz book with a song called “Havana Sunrise” that I really like. It’s not a solo, it’s a duet, but i really enjoy it ( i play it as an alto/tenor duet with my dad).
