I'm currently a sophomore in high school right now, and it's my DREAM to attend Notre Dame in the future. I think it would be very helpful to look at an application essay that the student wrote to get accepted. Would anyone be willing to share their essay... an essay they used to get accepted to Notre Dame? Thank you:) [email=flyingxxhippo@yahoo.com]

hi there tako- I see you are new to CC, and understand your dream to attend ND, but I find your direct inquiry regarding applicants' essays, a bit........bold?
I am not sure how willing students will be to send someone their essay, to a relatively new CCer, for the obvious reasons?
If this helps you, my S (now a sophomore) wrote about the activiity he was most involved with for 10 years, about his summer activities (related to this activity), and about his experience "coaching" this activity at his previous elementary school.
Bottomline- he explored his "passion"- and, longevity- 10 years or more.
(he had strong SAT scores and was accepted as EA scholar, two years ago)-

So I would counsel you to get those SAT scores UP!!!!!

That's correct and I have to agree--son is not releasing his essays to anyone! However, I can tell you that when he began the essay writing process, he tried to write his essays like research papers. Wrong style!! After much thought and taking cues from counselor, etc., he wrote essays that sounded more like he was telling a story about his passion and activities that were most important to him in HS. While he thought they sounded rather "corny", they must have been pretty good as he was admitted as well EA scholar. My suggestion would be to begin to think about what is important in your life that could define who you are so that admissions can truly get a feel for who you are and not just numbers on a page. Good Luck!

yes. i am new here. and sorry for such a... bold request? lOl. and thank you for replying.

I personally wrote a philosophical paper with a pretty bold premise. I think it caught their attention and worked to my advantage, considering I got in.

My s wrote an essay about the stupidest thing he's ever done. It was funny, sad and had a point. Kind of a humiliating experience. He got in early last year at ND and just about every place else (except UCLA) with it.

You need great grades and test scores too. Focus on those now.

I'd worry about high school right now. You are a sophomore... you have plenty of time to worry about colleges.

Especially since the material that I used in my essay didn't even happen until junior/senior year.

enjoy high school, and create experiences that you can write about in 2 years.

Continue to work hard toward your goal (ND) but dont worry about your essay now!

Good Luck my friend

^^^^^ good advice Tim !

thank you for all your advices!
