To report AP scores 3's and 4's?

I’ve read that some college admissions officers may wonder why AP test scores are not reported if you take an AP class. Some wonder if the score is too low for the reason you did not report. Admissions counselors from selective universities have stated scores are optional but if it’s a data point worth looking at send. At which point does an AP score become a helpful data point when you take an AP after the class? Of course the data point of AP scores 3 or higher WITHOUT sitting for an AP class is always helpful.

3’s will hurt you at highly selective schools. Do not self report AP scores that will diminish your application. Plenty of kids you are competing with 5’s.

I can think of no valid reason not to send a 4

Not necessarily. Several AP scores without a corresponding class if the HS offers many AP classes may lead one to wonder if the applicant is simply a one-dimensional test-taking drone.

A score of 3 is likely to be a detriment at the most selective colleges, but a non-reported score is likely to be assumed to be a 1 (or maybe 2), which is likely to be even more detrimental.
