To retake or not to retake?

Math 710
Critical Reading 670
Writing 630
Multiple Choice 65 (score range: 20-80)
Essay 8 (score range: 2-12)
Total-(2010)
I got these scores. I was expecting over a 700 on the writing. I dont know what the *&^% happened. I also could have done better on the math. Should i retake or just stay with these scores? Are these low end score? Should i retake math 2c in october?

omg...you are just like me except i got

720
630
640

totally bombed writing and math ;/

Retake the writing definately, with a little bit of studying of basic grammar, your score can improve dramatically.

For example, you probably did not know that proper grammar is "he is better than she" because you are omitting the "is". Knowing a couple of these can really help you.

I'm not sure what you mean by "math". If its 2c, definately retake it. If its 1's, im not sure if any amount of studying will raise it a whole lot. It is possible to raise your math, but it will take a lot of effort. Also, verbal section on the SAT1 really doesnt go up with short-term studying.

Someone explain the new SAT to the dinosaur over here... Are they still telling you your percentiles?

How does this writing section work?

God, I'm old...

consists of 3 sections. each is worth 800 points. It has an additional writing section. sorry for being too brief.

Okay, then the first thing anyone should do is find out what their raw score means in terms of percentile. If that score translated into a high percentile, then it doesn't matter if it's 600 or whatever.

but isn't a 600 still a bad score compared to the previous percentiles on the old sat. essentially, most of the material is the same.

It's not your raw score that matters, it's the percentile.

How Would you study for Writing and Critical Reading?

Buy the old SAT II writing book by barons, and go through the entire book. It is all grammer (writing section = SAT II writing).

I'm retaking, i got 760 math, 640 writing (66 and 8) and 620 verbal.

I'm also considering the ACT... its just a thought.

yea... but what about the CR? I want to get a higher score on that and i dont feel like reading to improve it.

just do every practice test in the real sat book (its blue). maybe get the princeton review for the flash cards? I also know that there is a princeton review book of just vocab flash cards... that may help (if u need that). Other than that, the barons and real sat book should do the trick.

Any more suggesting as to if i should retake? I have to take sat2 in june and i can't take the may one.

We can't tell you if you should retake or not. It's all up to you. What was your target score? What was your minimum? Where do you think you can improve? Do you think you can?

I got a similar score to you.. and I'm taking it again.. but my score was 70 points lower than my PSAT score, and I know i can do better if i study more.

Are you in a similar situation? Or is this a big improvement for you? If you think you can do better, than take the SAT in june, and SAT II in october. If this is good for you, and your pleased, then stick with your schedule.

That's all the advice any of us could give to you.

scores on new SAT: 700 M, 800 CRIT, 740 WRIT. Previous scores were 680M, 710 V, and 660M, 730 V on old SAT's. I don't know if i really can bring it up though as i get A's in school (current Honors Pre-calc), and recommended for AP Calc AB next yr. Looks like I have a 1500 as compared to old SAT scale for verbal and math. Does anyone think that 700 will hurt me???

article in the LA Times indicated that percentiles will not be compiled for at least one year so CB can collect enuf data....

ARGH. Then the test is essentially worthless.

Oh well, c'est la vie. Retake it if you think you can do better.

790 M, 770 V, 720 W (71 mc, 10 essay)

Should I retake to bring up the writing score?

i hate you

I really appreciate your post. thanks a lot. I will probably retake it in november. take my sat 2s in june and october.
