To take the AP exam or not?

My daughter has been accepted to UPitt. Last year (as a junior) she took the AP English Language exam and received a 5. This allows her to place out of a year of English. This year she is taking AP English Composition. Is there any reason she should take the exam? It is $91 and won’t place her out of anything she hasn’t already. Is there any other reason she should take the exam? Also, She is in AP Calc AB. She feels it is doubtful she will receive a 5 (teacher is not very good, no one at the school has ever gotten a 5). Even if she got a 4 she could place out of one semester of Calc at UPitt, but would have to take the second semester. She feels that she would want to take the full year regardless (because of lack of good teaching) so is there any good reason to take the Calc AP exam?

Thanks for any insight.

@Batt01, My son is in the same situation for AP Eng Lang and AP Lit/Comp and we had the same thought. The Pitt website indicates that with a score of 5 on AP Eng Lang you get credit for ENGCMP 0000 and ENGCMP 0200, and same for AP Eng Lit/Comp. So if you already have a 5 on AP Eng Lang you don’t fulfill any additional requirements with AP Eng Lit credit. Consequently, son was planning to skip the AP Eng Lit exam.

If she isn’t planning on placing out of Calc 1 if she did do well - then no reason to take the AP exam. And you are correct, one 5 in AP english is all she needs.

@Batt01, My daughter has been taking the exams to find out how well she and the teacher did. We had a discussion about this: last year she took AP Chem and tested high enough to be exempt from it at the college level, but would we want to skip the college level course which will likely be more effective, and possibly cover more material? It’s putting a lot of faith in her high school teacher.
