To the Waitlisted

Oh sorry, May 18 was when I got it...the acceptance date on the actual letter was May 16 I believe...

Hi everyone,
Congrats to everyone who got in, first of all.

After seeing the people who got in and learned that via mail, I took the liberty of calling the admission office because I am an international applicant.

They told me that they haven't decided on anything regarding the waitlist yet and they will be notifying via email. I asked them when it would all be over and they said July.

So there still seems to be something going on but I am not really that sure. I just have a gut feeling telling me that they are done or nearly done.

I called too, they told me the same thing.

i called as well, and they said that they havent made any decisions yet. i asked if they had accepted anyone yet, and the person said no. he said they haven't sent out anything yet. i also asked if there was a set number they had yet, and again the person said no. NO DECISION regardin the waitlist has been made yet... and apparently no one has gotten accepted or rejected yet.

but congrats to the couple of people on CC who have gotten accepted... maybe the guy i talked to wasnt aware of the couple of acceptances that have occurred?

my guess is that maybe decisions have already been made for seas but not for the college, two very different pools of applicants

i dunno... i didnt even tell the guy on the phone that i had applied to columbia college. oh well... i hope they end up taking quite a few off th waitlist for CC =/ i wanna go there so badly!

but WOW i really wish they would make their decisions soon. i have to make reservations for hotels and plane tickets and all that for northwestern really soon >< columbia's driving me up the wall... pleaaaaase accept me! :(

My friend called them up and they said they would notify the accepted people via email for sure in addition to snail mail. Nevertheless considering the people who learned the results by snail mail I am not sure if that piece of info is extremely credible.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I've been checking out these boards since my son was waitlisted and I think I should share some info. My son was told yesterday by someone at Columbia admissions that the freshman class is overenrolled at this point. Since it doesn't look like they will be losing many of these students due to waitlist activity at other schools--based on what I've read, anyway--I think this is the end. I hope everyone has a good second choice school.

Then why would they take 5 out of the waitlist according to other posts? I would guess that if they were overenrolled they would not take anybody at all.

Have either the college or fu even published their yield data for 2010? Nearly every other college has as yet...

I could be wrong, but I thought that the kids who were accepted from the waitlist were for SEAS, not CC.

hm well i called back the admissions people again, and i asked about the overenrollment thing.. and they said they had heard no such news. i did ask them, however, when we will be receiving letters.. and they said hopefully by the end of this month =] so they're coming~ >.<

Finally some reasonably good news!! Did Talone say that he got into CC or SEAS?

He mentioned something about SEAS

To answer your question, yes I got into SEAS. Already sent in my deposit and also filled out the housing and food apps. I received word about my acceptance on Thursday, and they gave me until Monday to reply, so its a pretty small window, although the apps are easy, so no worries.

So far I am the only one in my area that has heard back from the waitlist, which was a little strange (and lucky to say the least), but I also think I was the only one to apply to Columbia SEAS.

Thanks for all your congratulations (and congrats to moerae as well)! And also, good luck to the rest of you on the waitlist!

Yes, I got into SEAS as well...I was also supposed to make my decision by Monday, but I asked for an extention based on their financial aid...I have till this friday, and it is looking likely that I will head there because I really want to go, money be damned. I might be holding the rest you up, I'm not sure. I visited the campus today; it was pretty awesome. It might not be practical, but the heart rules with me. Talone, we seem to be the SEAS people, we should definitely talk/ exchange information. What are you doing in SEAS?

I'm doing Biomedical engineering. As to your potential financial aid issue, if you write a letter to Columbia's FinAid office, explain any financial abnormalities and such and it works pretty well, so I've heard.

I personally love being on campus; I was accepted to NYU before, but the thing I loved a lot about Columbia was that it actually did have a campus in the middle of the city. A great spot to hit for food is M2M. For those of you living in PA/DE/NJ area, its like a Asian Wawa, and makes the best sandwiches ever. For those of you who don't live there....find out what a Wawa is :-D.

PM me sometime if you wanna talk. And also, what are you planning on doing in SEAS?

hey Talone, i am also doing biomed engineering, but I will be doing it at Pitt. So one more of you who applied for Fu has a chance! Columbia would not budge on it's financial aid package, and I don't want the stress of having to deal with debt and such...So good luck to all of you!

hey all. last year, when there was decent wait list movement, i've read that this movement began around may 20th-25th. were there published yield numbers last year, or is it similar to this year in that there haven't been any yield numbers published? (just kind of curious becuase it seems like every other ivy and other top colleges have posted yield numbers on their websites and or respective newspapers). still hoping to get pulled. Any signs that movement (if any) will happen in the next week???

^ well when i called them, the guy said we'll be notified hopefully by the end of this month.. so.. maybe?
