I just received an e-mail at 2:30 PM PST today informing me that I was accepted off the waitlist. For those of you who might be wondering, I did not receive any calls from the Columbia admissions office, nor did I receive any other correspondence from them since my notification of placement on the waitlist. The only things I sent them were one e-mail the day I was waitlisted and my one-page statement that I hand-delivered a couple of weeks later.

Sadly, I'm not sure if I want to go, because Williams may just be the better education for me, but then... COLUMBIA-- so many great things about it. Argh. I don't know. Anyway, I thought I would just post this here so you fellow waitlistees would know that (as I presume) the first round of admissions off the waitlist has begun. I know the pain/anxiety of those of you who are still waiting.

Congrats buddy! Columbia and Williams are awesome; you got really decide whether you want a city life or a peaceful suburban life, because the schools' locations could not be any more different. Congrats again.

I got an e-mail today too... informing me that I'm STILL on the waitlist... jeeze, this is seriously never gonna end... does anyone know how many people are kept on the waitlist, and what the chance of getting in is now? the letter said i'll find out by the end of june...

I am writing to let you know our current status with regard to waitlisted candidates for the Class of 2009. The response to our initial offers of admission has been quite strong, and we have regretfully informed the vast majority of the candidates on our list that we can no longer consider them for places this fall. For a small handful of our candidates however, we are still keeping their candidacies active on the possibility that a few places may yet open up in the class, and I take pleasure in letting you know that you are among this very select group. While I must emphasize that you should be holding a place for yourself at another college and that it is still quite possible that no spaces will become available at Columbia, I want to congratulate you once more on the strength of your application.

I will write to you again no later than the end of June with final word concerning places in our class. In the meantime, you have our best wishes for a wonderful summer.

Sincerely,
Jessica Marinaccio
Director of Undergraduate Admissions

P.S. Please note that a hardcopy of the above will be mailed out tomorrow.

Does this mean the people who didnt receive an e-mail today saying they are either accepted or still on the waitlist have been rejected? Or is there a chance we others may get a positive e-mail tomorrow? I can't take this anymore...

i was accepted off the waitlist today - got the email around 9 PM on may 19. didn't receive a call or mail (but they might have sent something to my house - i go to boarding school)

Is there a specific order of notification... like country region? I presume by Monday many people should be notified right? Good Luck to everyone!

I also received an email at 230 PST today informing me that I was accepted off the waitlist. I was quite surprised, especially considering I got no phone call or anything prior to this email.

Anyways, I'm excited/nervous about making a decision. As of now, I'm very attached to the school I sent a deposit to (my former dream school), Georgetown.

Did either of the other two above me who got in get any information about by when we have to decide? The email is extremely non-informative.

Just called the admissions office, they said about a 100 people are still on the waitlist, and 60 have been accepted from the waitlist so far. So I guess its more waiting for some of us..

Just so you guys know, I got the exact same message last year (the "still on it" letter). Same text and everything. I don't know about this year, but last year, this "select group" had around 100 people on it, and we were notified of our rejection (everyone was rejected) early July. Just don't keep your hopes up, because it'll be a rough month and a half if you do (it was for me).

Yup. Columbia has yet to announce a yield. My recommendation is to keep an eye for news, but don't count on it. If you get in, great. If you don't get in, at least you aren't so disappointed.
