so they notify u either way, that is, if ur accepted or rejected right?

Right. Although if you're accepted the reply should come earlier than if you're rejected...

this wait is exasperating! any updates? any updates from the admissions office if anyone has contacted them recently?

no e-mail here

i just got an inside update from admissions, this is for CC - they are already purging the waitlist to create a much smaller short-list of applicants, the situation is the same as in most other elite institutions, they believe that they will not need to use the waitlist whatsoever but if you do make it to the short list that, at least, is promising.

The admissions office hasnt admitted this publicly but it will soon, at least for when the letters actually come out.

wow, ironically after my last post i received word that i was shortlisted!!! this does not end!!!!!!

yeah.. I just got the email update too.. gah!

me too. i wonder how many they put on this "extended waiting list" - sharkie, do you know from your inside source?

I don't know if the emails are any different for Fu / CC, but I can confirm that a friend of mine has been "released" from the waiting list... so, not everyone gets a spot on the "extended" waiting list.

uh yea, on my email it didn't say i got on another list.... oh well, good thing i did not have my heart set on it at all.

short listed.

what does "short-listed" mean? Is it another word for extended waiting list thingy?

short listed= extended wait list.

"released" from waitlist. disappointed but happy to move on. This is the email:

Dear ,

In my prior correspondence, I promised you more news concerning your candidacy for Columbia.

We have now heard from all of our admitted students, and the Class of 2010 is full. This leaves us with the regrettable task of releasing the great majority of the candidates on our waiting list so that they may go forward with plans for the coming year. We are confident that the college where you will matriculate this fall will be made richer by your academic and personal contributions.

This has been an extraordinary year at Columbia in that both the quality of the applicant pool and the responses to our offers of admission have exceeded our expectations. We recognize and applaud your record of academic and personal achievement and regret that Columbia will not have the benefit of the contributions you could make here.

I am confident that you will be successful in college and wish you the best in all your endeavors.

Thank you again for your longstanding interest in Columbia.

Sincerely,

Jessica Marinaccio
Executive Director of Undergraduate Admissions

BROWN UNIVERSITY AWAITS...

short-listed. No chance I suppose.

heading to McGill in Montreal most prolly. =(

Shortlisted to FU here as well.

Btw, I think it would be best if people could just specify if they have applied to Fu or CC.

I was put into the extended waiting list as well :)
I dunno if I will go though. If I really get in, I may decide to go to columbia

Shortlisted to CC.

wait, so were a large percentage of people shortlisted? On the email it goes on about how the list was heavily weeded. Liars.

i have no idea how many were put on the extended waitlist, my guess is that it works this way, let's say that about 1000 people were put on the waitlist, 900 were released but they kept about 100 just in case for example somebody dies, gets sick, takes a gap year etc and spaces appear. It's more like an insurance.
