To those who are taking the AP Latin exam

uhh... for the entire aeneid?

the back of your textbook should. the glossary I mean.

lol really though in the back of my textbook there's "vocab frequency lists" with words that appear x number of times. only the words though, no definitions next to them. I could send you the first list (20+ occurrences) but they're pretty easy words.

Well, like in the first 10 lines there are constructions that I don't understand. For example, genus unde Latinum in line 6 of book 1. from whom sprang the latin race. Now how exactly do you get that from the text?

its implied? i would have to see it in context

I think unde is actually from where (referring to Latium). and "sprang" can actually be any verb, like "founded" or "established" bc Vergil decided not to put any in. so you supply it yourself and make sure you put it in brackets.

btw- I think it's "from where the Latin race [sprang]" with the Latin race as nominative (because genus is neuter)

Who is taking Literature Catullus? Any advice, worries, etc?

My textbook gives a footnote, "from whom (Aeneas) sprang the Latin race"

Yes, "unde" means "from where" or if you want to sound really pretentious "whence." It can also introduce a purpose clause in some instances with the subjunctive, but it's not doing that here.

I took horace/catullus last year, just know the material on the syllabus well and you'll be fine. I memorized my translations as well, which really helped (but that's only if you're obsessed with Latin and really want a 5 . . . I can still recite parts of Catullus 64 verbatim and its been almost a year, lol). The sight passages aren't too difficult and all you have to do is answer MCs on them, and what helped me was reading the questions beforehand and then going to the passages. I also, to prepare for the sight passages, would use the perseus/lewis and short website and pick random passages from anywhere and see how well I could do them at sight and that really helped a lot. Good luck on friday, bona fortuna vobis!

Thanks. The only problem is that I don't have time to memorize the translations and I don't have all the translations.

don't memorize! just translate :/

lol. Are you telling me that you can translate the entire aeneid without vocab help or special use help?

I'm taking AP Lit Catullus/Cicero.

A question: Since the Catullus syllabus changed (now includes additional poems, including 14a, parts of 64, 44) how likely is it that one of the free response questions will be over at least one of these "new" poems? My textbook is old and didn't include them, so I don't know them very well (I've just read English translations). Should I go back and look over them?

I can't believe I completely missed this test. I feel pretty well prepared for the free response, but not so much for the MC. Does anyone have any practice questions? I did the ones that CollegeBoard offered, but I'd like more. Btw, I'm taking Vergil.

Advice Needed:

I've only studied the first 55 lines of Book I. What do you advise I do for the AP on friday?

I will reread sparknotes. What else shall I do?

First 55 lines?! Holy jesus. Sparknotes will probably not help at all; they really want specifics in all of the passages, and they are so many characters/events that sparknotes inherently misses some. Have you read the entire Aeneid (in english)? I don't know even know what to suggest, unless you're a Latin master who has seen poetry before and are really good at sight translation.

I read the entire English version of the Aeneid. I've gone through the entire latin version with my class but I don't seem to remember much of it.

I believe I just need a refresher to remember all the specifics, i'm just worried about the translation stuff.

i think friedymeister's screwed

What have you people done to prepare?

j/k he'll do very well.

Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha HaHa Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha... Brian, you're sooo silly. We both know i'm going to fail.

i too feel a bit lost and nervous

here's a good review website
