To those who are taking the AP Latin exam

Good luck. If you are worried about the translation, then I suggest you pick up your latin text and randomly translate any 8 lines. Or better yet, go to APCentral and look at all the translation passages from the past years. Doubtful they'll show up again, but it's good practice anyway. As far as preparing, I'm really concerned about the MC (have seen only a few questions....not good) and the minor characters which are tested in FRQ 5, so that's what I plan to review in the next 36 hours.

Well, I'm tired as Hell so I'm going to sleep now and going to sleep early tomorrow. I've done plenty of old APs (from the 1980s) and they are hard as hell, I'm scared about those also. IDK what I'm going to do.

Does anyone have the literal translations for Ovid's Amores on the AP Latin Literature syllabus? stkvgl@hotmail.com

Thanks

Good luck all. Scared

As soon as you people are done, post your impressions!

Uhm....that was difficult. The multiple choice was a big w t f, but the FRQ were awesome. So I guess overall it wasn't that bad.

more like the opposite for me.

MC was easy, FRQ was the ***. I actually did not know who Marcellus was, nor did I remember the thing with Turnus, and I only knew one of the 6 people. Translations were iffy.

mc was on the easy side

V1, V4, V5 were easy.

V2 was kind of iffy - i forgot a bunch of words in the last three lines

V3 did not go so well. let's hope i ********ted my way through it well enough to secure the 5.

I loved V5. Seriously.
V4 was kinda iffy for me. I've missed the bulk of books 10 and 12 because we did them these last two weeks. And last two weeks=missing school cuz of other APs.
The other ones and the MC, I dunno. Skipped quite a few on the MC I think...

Overall, not the hardest exam in the world. Hehe.

Anyone know what the curve is like for Latin? Say I got 50 out of 60 on the FR and 20 out of 40 on the MC - what would that work out to?

pyroclastic, a high 4 or low 5

latin lit - catullus/ovid...multiple choice were challenging, LOVED THE FREE RESPONSE SECTION

Paulus, how do you calculate the literature score? How much does MC count, etc.?

Say I have 10-15 (maybe more?) wrong MC, bombed 1 short essay, perfect translations and strong other two parts, what can I expect?

multiple choice counts for 40% of your score, free response 60%

1/3 off for every wrong answer, 1 point for every right answer, 0 points for every skipped....so if you got 15 wrong your percentage is 60.1%.

I don't recall the exact breakdown of the free response, but i think the short essay is 15%....so if the rest was pefect you'd have 85%.

85% x .6 + 60% x .4 = 75

75% total on the test would be a 5.

from what I understand about the curve, generally like 68-70 upwards is a 5, mid 50s to 68 is a 4, mid 40s to mid 50s a 3, you get the idea

86-120 is a 5
72- 85 is a 4

I'm just hoping for a 4.....
