And how can religion???

I do believe in a higher being, a supernatural power, or whatever you want to call it. Which religion portrays the one closest to the actual one I'm not sure of.

The human mind is programmed so that we cannot comprehend certain things. It is also programmed so that we think of a higher being. For somebody to reject blantantly the existence of a higher being because it cannot be proven by the human mind itself(which is limited) is being foolish.

Actually, I read that scientists have discovered the so-called "God gene." I don't know the exact details about it, but supposedly those that have the gene are more likely to believe in a higher power than those without the gene.

^^^ Yeah I saw this in...Newsweek, I think? It was a news magazine. Printed last spring sometime. Very interesting article.

It just goes to show that religion can be dissected and traced by sociologists as an institution of man.

Here's one article about the "God gene" is anyone's interested.

Time magazine also did a piece on it, but you need to be a subscriber to read the article.

Just because some people do not belive in the same thing as you do, doesn't mean that you can call them 'foolish' :P

Maybe that God gene is true..? My parents are agnostic (my mum is more anti-christian.. she doesn't like the whole 'chrisitian ignorance'), 4 of my grandparents are agnostic (or they haven't really given it a thought..) and my sister doesn't like chrisitian beliefs. And i'm agnostic (i don't really care about faith.. The only thing I'm worried about is Karma)

So... are you implying that it's not foolish to blindly accept anything for which there is at best limited and controversial evidence?

If I were to say that I believe that the 6 billion humans on this earth were actually created by a technologically superior breed of humans living in Alpha Centauri because those superior humans wanted to see how more primitive humans would develop, and yet I have little or no evidence to support this, could I call anyone who rejects my opinion "foolish" simply because they don't believe in my completely unsupported theory?

Have you conisdered that some human minds may not be programmed to believe in a higher being?

I've considered that a bit too many have been programmed to believe in a higher being.

I'm an agnostic I suppose. Former Chrisitian.
