To transfer or not to transfer?

Hi all.

I am currently in a dilemma as to whether I transfer or not. It's a long story if you want all the details, but I'll just get to the point. I am currently a junior at a 4 year university (not CC) majoring in computer science and have been admitted into UT's computer science program as a transfer student. As for my current institution in terms of recognition, let's just say that it does not have a national ranking published and it's CS program is at #110 so it obviously pales in comparison to UT's program which is #10.

I know UT's residence requirement states that 60 units must be taken there to receive a degree so if I transfer, I would most likely graduate in Spring 2014 earliest. Let's assume that if I do transfer, it can be done. At my current institution, I am slated to graduate in the Spring of 2013. My question is, do you think it is worth it to stay in school one extra year and graduate from UT's recognized computer science program or just stay on course at my current institution and graduate earlier? I'm leaning on staying because of the additional cost in terms of time, but I just wanted to see what you think.

the mere ranking of a school is not an enough indicator when it comes to what really matteres …

Thus, in my opinion, think about what you are aiming for after graduation (grad school, a specific company…etc), and try to reach someone inside that company or school and present your case and ask if it would make a difference for them … this way you might have a better idea if it’s worth it to transfer or not …

if it’s worth it, I wouldn’t worry too much about the delay in graduation … also, ask yourself if you’ll learn more and achieve more if you transfered to UT … in fact, I think this is the most important point to consider …

hope that helps …

Stay and graduate, rankings aren’t as important as you would think. Apply for Grad after you graduate.
