To what extent do colleges assess SAT subject test?

I understand that it helps to exempt from classes, but do colleges look at SAT subject tests to assess how intelligent you are (kinda like grades)? Or something along those lines?

For example, if my GPA is lacking, would having an 800 in MATH II, 700+ in U.S History, 700+ in Literature, 700+ in Chemistry, 700+ in Biology, and 700+ in Physics help compensate for that? Assuming I had a 2100+ SAT I?

I'm aiming for UVa.

UVa does not require SAT IIs but recommends them. You should not assume they will overcome a bad GPA. But you can assume that if you are borderline before consideration of your SAT II scores that yours will help.

Most schools like to make sure that your SAT 2s are about where they should be (680+), but good SAT 2s make a negligible difference…
BAD SAT 2s can hurt you though
