To Which Other Colleges Are You Applying?

Will my answer to this question be held against me? I am in an income bracket that gives me many fee waivers and I decided to take advantage of them and apply to schools widely. I realize this is kind of frowned upon but I don't know what to expect from college admissions and I'm quite nervous, so I wanted to maximize my chances of being accepted somewhere I will like. Will Reed hold it against me that I am applying to nearly ten other schools or that some of them are more "big name" schools than Reed (U Chicago, Swarthmore)?

I like Reed quite a lot and I would be dismayed if they made the false assumption that I would turn them down for more well known schools without a second thought (as I'm sure some people might).

I wouldn’t worry about it. I put down several other schools, but was accepted just fine.

I think of it as the “opposite” of your concerns: schools use the answers to help with future recruiting and marketing, helping to find students like you!

I put down several other schools (although Reed was probably the most selective of all of them) and I got in. I wouldn’t worry about it; I think it’s more for comparison/statistical purposes.

S1 applied to UChicago and Reed and was admitted to both. They are very much alike academically and have many cross admits. They are used to that.
