Just want to give new parents a word of encouragement! It will seem like you will never get through applications, your kid deciding on a major, you figuring out how to pay, and then being stressed over admission decisions but stick with the process, it is worth it.
I am super proud and happy because when I came down for coffee after my morning shower I found that my son had already packed the car and was like, come on mom and Dad, time to go!
Kid #5 had move-in on Friday. This is the first one I’ve gone to/first in-state! It went very smoothly --no problem with parking, check-in, unloading. No waiting. (We’d packed the night before and left early.) Staff was very helpful. D didn’t have too much stuff and was super organized, which made it easy.
Not emotional at all, really. I guess it feels different because she is only a couple hours away. Very chaotic at home with college senior S leaving the same morning (driving himself long distance) and younger sibs starting school, so not much time to think about this particular baby leaving the nest. I helped her set up her room, we met D’s roommate who seemed very nice, went to the bookstore, walked around campus, watched the marching band practice (a couple of D’s HS friends are in it), then I took off.
On Saturday afternoon , D texts me: “I just threw up.”
(She is fine–either something she ate for lunch or being outdoors in the heat too long, I think.)
