I am an international student willing to apply for spring 14 session. I know that most universities require intl students to send a TOEFL or IELTS score, but the universities that i have selected have boundary marks for the SAT critical reading and if someone crosses that boundary then he does not have to take the TOEFL or IELTS. I have a 580 in my SAT CR which is above the threshold mark for the universities I have selected. So, according to the university policies I dont have to take the tests. However, if i still take the tests and submit my scores will that give me any advantage? Will it boost my chances of being accepted? I am really confused as to whether I should take the tests or not.
Also, are there any drawbacks in taking the IELTS instead of TOEFL? I find IELTS easier and prefer it over TOEFL but I am confused as to whether the universities will prefer it or not.

Hi, I think if you are exempted from submitting TOEFL or IELTS then why waste 10$ to send scores ;)

You should take TOEFL though. Your embassy might ask for it in the visa interview section.
