Most schools that require TOEFL have varying minimum TOEFL scores. The highest would probably be a 100 (Hotchkiss, Exeter, Deerfield, etc.). I have just received my TOEFL scores, scoring a 98two points short. I have been in an institution where English is the primary language for at least 10 years so technically the school does not require my TOEFL score, but I took it anyway and submitted it (score recipients cannot be cancelled/changed). It might not be as big of a problem, but I only want to know what other CC users think. I don't want to be worrying because of this.

Your thoughts would be much appreciated. Thanks!

most colleges exempt you from toefl requirement if you call them up and tell them that english has been the medium of instruction at your school. some of the colleges i have applied to have said that. however, i took the toefl and sent scores simply to decrease the weight that my critical reading score carries as I did not do too well in critical reading whereas my toefl score was 113. i agree that some colleges do not follow this, but some do.

my suggestion would be: call the individual colleges you applied to and tell theem about your situation. if you’re an international student, it should not be a problem. i’m an international and some of my friends did that, even those who applied to the top schools like Princeton, Columbia, etc.

Siren: We are in the boat. I’m 3 points below minimum of a school. I emailed them and told them about my below-minimum- score. They said I’m in good shape. So my advice is: Just email the AOs and ask them!

@FayMom Good question. For some schools, TOEFL for international students is required. Although one particular school doesn’t require my TOEFL scores. However, I mistakenly put all of the schools into the score recipients, and I cannot change/cancel it.

@Lovelylife96 Thanks for letting me know, I’ll definitely do that.

Which grade are you applying for?
We had also ordered our TOEFL score school reports while registering for the exam and sent them in September. My daughter has got 112.
But i agree with FayMom, if your SSAT reading and verbal is high, TOEFL souldn’t hurt your application.

Mine’s 101 hahaha (phew, just pass the cut)
Anyway, my friend got below 100 but the admission office is cool with it
they asked him about his EC and said that if he have good EC and grades, he’ll be fine
good luck anyway
