Tokyo Olympics

And if she lives/works in California, she’ll get to pay those taxes too.

I don’t know if her mother remained a Japanese citizen, and that may have had an influence on her decision.

On another topic, I’m very happy to see Tom Daley finally win Olympic Gold.

Watching sailing now - apparently not messed up due to the storm!

I had to take a two-hour nap today I am so sleep-deprived.

Naomi makes a ton of money from Japanese endorsements. I imagine that was a big part of the decision.

Actually, I think it is 2 silver and a bronze. Not bad for UVA swimmers!

She has now dropped out of the individual all-around. But her well-being is far more important.

I know! I am so happy for him! He seems like a nice guy!

Very happy Jade Carey gets the last spot in the Individual All-Around Gymnastics Finals. I’m not a gymnastics judge, but seemed she kept receiving lower scores than what she earned vs other countries’ competitors. Going from 9th in qualifying to a medal is unlikely, but she carries herself so well, will be nice to see her compete.

She peaked at the right time. I liked her a lot!

I’m hoping- if it’s ready- she competes her triple double on floor. She has almost no shot at a medal, but she would then have the hardest skill in the code of points- they had to go to new letters for it.

Correct, but I was speaking to the individual events, after the individual all-around. I don’t think Simone Biles has ruled those out too.

And of course, coming from someone who still gets out there and competes, health is certainly wealth. :+1:

Last night I watched Beiwen Zhang become the first female from Team USA to make the quarterfinals in Olympic badminton by beating her opponent from Brazil. A sport dominated by the continent of Asia.

I actually really enjoy the fast-paced nature of the sport. I’ve occasionally played at our local badminton club and one hour of court time will get you drenched in sweat. Great cross training.

Katie Ledecky is my living hero. We lived on the Stanford campus for a year and on the way to the Stanford Arrillaga gym would pass Katie and team swimming, or cross paths riding bikes or at football games or walking to class. Katie always acted like a normal college student and everyone treated her as they would any college student. Katie is a class act all-around!

I’m also happy for Great Britain who won the bronze in the women’s gymnastics team finals. This was their first medal in the team final since 1928! Good for them! For the Russians it was their first gold medal in the team event since 1992. So good for them as well, they reminded me of the Americans in 2012 and 2016, just hitting every routine. I expected the US to win the gold going into the Olympics, but after seeing them in qualifying, they just didn’t have the “spark” or whatever you call it that they had in 2012 and 2016. But, I’d say all things considered a silver is quite an achievement. I wish we could’ve seen Simone compete in both the team and all around, but she had to do what was best for her mental and physical health. And I think it’s good for athletes to know when “enough is enough.” Athletes should not be forced to compete when they aren’t up to it, having good health is much better than a gold medal. I can think of several examples of athletes competing when it wasn’t the best thing…including one that is quite famous

She seems like such a friendly, down to earth, easy-going person.
