Tokyo Olympics

I am a big fan of Katie’s. She is one of the best swimmers in history but comes across as very humble and down to earth. You see a lot of cockiness and arrogance (understandable to a certain degree when you look at the extremely high level at which these athletes compete) in the Olympics. Not from Katie that I have seen. And last night she seemed as happy (if not happier) that Erica Sullivan won the silver in the 1500m as she was winning the gold herself.

I can’t wait for the winter Olympics. I don’t know why I can’t take my eyes off Curling, but it was by far the most entertaining sport in the whole 2018 games.

Ya, WAY better than the Team USA’s women’s ice hockey beating Canada in the Gold medal game 3-2.

Sweeping and shuffle board on ice is so much more fun to watch.

Anyway, back to Tokyo.

Still thought Curling was better…

I like Curling, because it is the only Olympic sport that one can practice holding a broom in one hand and an ice cold beer in the other.

Curling is the only sport where a pregnant woman can compete in an Olympic sport. I forget the nation, but that was mentioned during announcer-to-announcer banter a few years back.

There is a CBC program called Still Standing, where Johnny Harris (Canadian actor/comic) highlights tiny Canadian towns that have fallen on hard times, lost lots of population, jobs, etc, but are “still standing”. Some of the towns have only a few hundred people, but the pride of the town is its curling rink.

I love all the strategy involved.

Watched some of the individual dressage while having lunch today. The Germans took the gold and silver and England the bronze.

We are looking forward to the showjumping here in our house since both of our D’s were competitive hunter/jumper riders. We will be cheering for Jessica Springsteen and the American team.

Great article. Thank you for sharing. My daughter started gymnastics at 13, and we could barely find gyms that would let her through the door. Even with such a late start she still ended up with ptsd from an abusive coach. The whole sport needs to be rethought from the ground up or burned from the top down, or both.
