I didn't join any clubs at school. However I did tons of volunteer work like volunteer at pet shelter, at USC medical center, tutor little kids at elementary schools. Can it make up for my lack of clubs? The reason why I didn't join any clubs was because none of my friends join them and I hate joining clubs without someone accompanying me. So...yea

Have a nice day

Volunteering is great, but it doesn’t show all the same skills/commitments that clubs do. If you can, I would join at least one club, but your application will still look good without it.

Colleges want someone who is are involved in the community, someone who takes advantages of opportunities, someone who shows passion in a certain area, and someone who shows commitment/leadership in their activities. Whether you choose to reveal these characteristics through volunteer work, clubs, sports, music, internships, summer programs, etc. does not make much of a difference.
