We'd like to send my daughter to a boarding school and she's optimistic about the idea, however, it seems we're looking into it too late. Which schools does she have a chance getting accepted to so far past the deadline? I think we're looking for a lower tier school anyways- her testing results were great but her grades this year have been very poor and EC's- well, no comment. :/

there r rolling deadlines, but u might have better luck next year. sometimes its easier to get in in a leter year because people have transferred or dropped out? what grade is ur daughter wanting to apply for and what is she looking into?

Well, unfortunately, she will be a junior next year.
She loved Tabor Academy because it was by the ocean, but I'm not sure they'll be willing to accept her with the grades and poor EC's she's had this past year.

Also, some more info: she won't need to apply for FA wherever she goes- so that should help. And she was involved in a few things- yearbook, community service, and volleyball her freshman year.

she had good extra curriculars, and the no FA will def help. it doesnt hurt to try a school! id say try agin next yr, even tho shed b a senior. colleges will see that she did well enough throughout hs to make into BS. pretty campuses count!

Sometimes the single sex schools have openings later in the cycle. It is worth calling some schools after the April reply date and seeing if they still have availability. Especially if she'd consider a girls school.

I think Exeter takes late apps, so do Taft and Loomis
Btw, she can also try next year-I got in as a junior this yr (applied for 12th grade) at Hotchkiss and Choate with FA.

St. Andrew's-Sewanee has rolling admissions as do many of the schools outside the Northeast. Go to Boarding School Review's search page (Search Boarding Schools) and search for schools that do not require the SSAT. Many of these schools have rolling deadlines.

I would still try Tabor...my D applied late as a junior, although her stats were good. She also chose it because of the ocean, and it has been great for her.

Most of the top schools are accepting late applications. Deerfield told me they usually accept a few off the waitlist each spring and summer. Hotckiss puts them on the waitlist at best.

I would suggest thinking first about geography - are you limiting where you would like her to attend? Then go to Boarding School Review (yes, yes, I know some info is wrong) but they have a great feature which allows you to sort schools by region/state/etc., and also by all-girls, co-ed, and such. You can also get links to the schools sites directly from there and get a quick feel for the school.

No, it is definately NOT too late - especially since you said you were not interested in a "top tier" school and given what you said about your daughter, one of them might not be a good fit anyway.

If she would consider an all girls school, that might be a great fit. Do you have a general geographical range?
