Hi,
I requested two teachers to write recommendations for me before summer break started, but somehow, there was an error in my school’s naviance so i couldn’t add my teachers. so until today (week before school starts), i didn’t know that they haven’t been writing one since summer started.
Do you think it’s too late to remind them & ask them again? I think they won’t really write good ones since I was irresponsible (?). I’m not applying for ED or EA anywhere.
Any…advices or similar circumstances?
Did you speak to the teachers in person? If so, I think it’s perfectly reasonable to email them and politely explain the circumstances, as long as you realize that they probably won’t be able to prioritize your request among everything else going on. If not, give it a few weeks until school has settled into some routine and then approach them (extremely politely, understanding that the school year has just started and they are probably busy) and tell them what happened.
Just make sure you give them ample time before you have to submit your applications. Since you’re not doing EA or ED, you should be fine. If you were a good student in the classes and you’re very polite, I wouldn’t worry about the teachers writing not-so-good recommendations.
Does your school have any policy on how much time you need to give them? Our schools policy is 2 weeks (minus any holidays–no asking Dec 18 for Jan 1st!). Most kids at our school don’t even ask until the school year has begun. Unless you have a very different culture in that regard, I’d say you are fine to ask now — especially since you have already asked them. Explain to them the situation and ask if they will still write your letters.
