Hi everybody
I’ve recently moved from Switzerland to Denver, Colorado and now I’m applying to U.S. colleges.
Unfortunately, I haven’t heard about Tulane University until a few weeks ago, and now, TU is my absolute dream school.
I’ve done a lot of research and I noticed that TU emphasizes when students show interest.
On September 30th TU hosts a reception in Denver. So my question is, should I attend the reception? Or am I anyways too late for the school to show genuine interest?
Moreover, my main concern is that my strong accent will be at my disadvantage if I talk to somebody from TU. (I don’t have any problems with academic English writing, listening or anything at all, which my test scores prove. It’s just my accent which may make me seem not competitive enough.) So what would you advise?
Absolutely attend the Denver meeting, definitely you are OK for showing interest. And no worries at all about an accent. It might even work to your advantage. Tulane is trying to expend the diversity of students in many areas, including students from different countries.
thanks for your fast reply.
Another question: what will the meeting be like concerning main topic, opportunity to ask questions, opportunity to leave a bad/great impression, and length of the meeting itself?
Meeting is about 90 minutes. There will be a presentation about the school itself, and lots of opportunities to ask questions. If there are alums that show up to help out, and there usually are, they will answer questions as well. There is ample opportunity before the meeting and usually after (unless the rep is pressed for time) to talk 1-1 and make an impression.
No need to fret, it’s a friendly meeting, usually they show a movie of the campus and answer questions from the crowd. Sometimes some alum or parents of students are there to answer questions.
