I've skipped about 30 days of school so far this semester (they're excused of course by my mom), and I'm wondering if there's a limit to how many days of school I can miss a semester. Also, since I already got accepted into the college i want to go to can they revoke my admission because of my absences even if I'm passing all of my classes?

in my school and all schools I know of.. you cannot pass / be promoted without 70% attendance.. so be careful although a month should just be okay....

As long as the school is OK with it, I don't know how the college could find out. Attendance generally isn't listed on transcripts.

it usually is...

it's listed in mine...and like ant said, if it affects your graduation, then it affects your acceptance.

and districts have mandatory failures for attendance that falls below a certain threshhold.

Does the 70% attendance apply to semester average or just the average attendance for the whole year? If it applies to the whole year average... then I'm fine. If it applies to semester attendance averages... I'm screwed.

You need to check the regulations for your school district and state.

You need to think about WHY you skipped so much school- health, stress, just cause, tired, catching up with school...

That question needs to be answered because if this is how you were in HS, how will you handle college?

If you miss that many classes, well, too bad...many colleges aren't as forgiving as in HS...you miss, no makeup perhaps

So why did you skip so many days? At least answer that for yourself

And why was your mom so willing to let you?

Besides health, there really is no excuse

Did the school ever ask you why you were absent so much? Or did they ignore it and let itslide? Did your counselor ever ask, gee, why are you gone so much? Is everything okay.

Being gone more than a month of days in ONE semester is, frankly, appalling, unless, as I said, its for health reasons.

If its not for health reasons, or bullying or some other reason, I can't see how you can deal with college.

Remember 30 days is 6 weeks of school...thats a lot of not learning going on

When I was a senior in highschool, I probably missed at least 30 days senior year. I would just write my own excuse notes since I was 18... I got into college and it was never a problem. goodluck

Haha, I've missed 16 days this semester . . no one even cared because I'm a really good student, except 1 teacher made a huge deal out of it, saying she could fail me if I didn't show up anymore, etc.

I overslept again today :(
As long as I get a doctor's excuse it should be okay, but definently check for your school, because they still have the power to put F on the final report card just because of attendance, even if you had an A avg.

Actually I think college will be much more better because classes are spread out, and you can choose how early to take them (most of the time), and if you skip, at least you can still catch up without having to deal with the annoyance of getting an "excuse". I always miss but it never hurts my avg because school here is useless anyway . . but I still have to deal with getting excuses, assuring teachers i haven't become a druggie, etcetera.

i think attendance and tardies are included on my son's transcripts. although several schools in our area say they will fail you for excessive absences, i think if challenged, they would have a hard time defending their policy.

So, is it laziness, boredom, arrogance, what? WHy skip so many days, and what do you do with your time?

I really would like to understand why you feel entitled to just not show up...

In NYC it is a mandatory failure and most schools comply.

Do you know what the policy is for California schools?

i completely understand the urge not to show up to high school. there's SO much wasted time in high school it's unbelievable

concur!!!!!!

that means not that u can bunk :D

30? Wow.

I missed around 15 this semester and I thought that was a lot.

I doubt it would hurt if you had a seriously legit reason... but yeah, 30 absences generally does NOT look good.
