What do you guys think... I really want to go to one of these schools.

Assuming you have a high class ranjk, your best shot will be a top UC. You have a shot at McGill, NYU if it's not Stern, BU and Mich. The others are real reaches, maybe Tufts with Legacy but I don't know Tufts so PM admissions Officer who is in Tufts admissions.

Thanks Suze... My rank is in top 15%
I think that I have a pretty good shot at Tufts, I may be getting an interview with dean of CAS because of my mom.
I want to go to Gallatin at NYU, not stern. If it helps any, my grandfather went there.

anyone

I need to update this. I have gotten my writing score for the ACT. I recieved an 11/12, 99th percentile.

I assume colleges will look at this in a good light, and possibly realize that the multiple choice under intense time constraints do not correctly measure my ability.

Also, I have been accepted for an intern position for a member of the house of representatives for this summer in DC. Many people applied, and they accepted 4, for the whole summer. The other 3 are all college students at schools ranging from Georgetown, to Harvard.

Georgetown, Stanford, Northwestern, Penn, BC:

No way.

UCLA: match - slight reach

I don't know how much legacy is going to help you at Tufts because you are otherwise not really competitive.

What makes me 'not so' competitive? I think that my grades are fine for nearly all these schools. Is it the test scores, thats my weakness that I see.

I will have exemplary recs from academy english and history teachers, that I have had for 2 years, and spent countless hours with.

I predict that my Grades will go up slightly. Maybe a 4.3 next semester, but highest this semester will be a 4.15.

If I push my ACT to 30, or SAT to 2000, will it help considerably?

Would a supp. letter of rec from a member of the house help?

I think for Tufts, with their emphasis on foreign language and globalization, I need to play up my outstanding grades in 2 foreign languages, including mandarin at a college, and my extensive foreign study abroad.

I don't have any credibility to be giving predictions, but I HAVE been lurking these boards for the past year sooooo... This is what I think:

Your SAT score is pretty low for the ultra-competitive schools. I have friends at Andover with the same goals as you, stressing about being a "failure" because they got a 2100. I think you should aim higher than 2000.

I do find it impressive that you are so dedicated to your film-making! :)

Thanks for the reply chinsquared. I do want to show my dedication to film-making. I will be sending in a supplementary documentary I have made, and possibly a short film that may win a student emmy.

What should I shoot for as far as test scores. I will probably be getting extended SAT time for october, so my scores should go up, considering I usually do not finish each math section, and have to rush through the reading.

If it makes any difference, the academy i'm in is becoming very well known amongst the colleges for its strong students. My teachers have all recieved phone calls after interviews of applicants, congratulating them on their job well done. This year, we had two students admited to UCLA, that had below 3.0 GPAs, and sub 1600 sat scores.

15% of the class last year was admitted early to stanford, 2 decided to go. They both had sub-2000 test scores, slightly over a 4.0, and nothing else outstanding, asides from exemplary recs attesting to their dedication and perfromance in the academy. Next year, I will be an "intern" with the teachers, helping set up publicity, fundraising, and putting together a end of year film festival that showcases our work to the public, at a fairly sized theater.

All I can hope is that colleges see this dedication, and award points for it.

Sorry to bump it, but i've been visiting colleges, and really liked U. Mich.

I'm especially intersted in International Biz at Ross.
What are my chances there?

I am currently doing my internship on the hill, as the only high school intern my congressmen has ever had. I will attempt to get a great rec from her.

I will be director of debate for the entire norcal area of the junior state of america next year.

I got my grades, got a 4.1
Recieved only A out of 65 students in honors english class as part of academy, teacher knows me well and will write fabulous reccomendation.

May win largest student film festival, or at least honorable mention for my documentary about feminism.

Any updated chances?

grades/gpa/rank are good(could be a little better). but your test scores are holding you back (esp. for competitive schools i.e stanford, penn).

i'm not going to say your definitely a reject though, b/c you seem to be confidnent about having good recs, and you are passionate about film. however, raising your scores would help A LOT!

good luck with your college search/admissions....i'm glad i don't have to go through it until 1 more year. :)

Thanks for the input.

I think its critical that I emphasize my leadership within the academy, as my teachers will. I am in charge of around 200,000 dollars worth of technology, and maintain most of it.

I also want to play up my wanting to explore more languages, taking spanish all the way to the top, and concurrently enrolling in a cc, to and capping out all of the chinese offered, 3 semesters.

Chances specifically at:
UMICH
N'Western
UCLA
NYU
G-Town
JHU

My college conselour thinks that im a match for UMICH, NYU, UCLA
High match for N'Western, JHU, but if I apply early, then matches.
Reach for G-town.

On another note, i've just been granted extended time for all CB tests, so i'm expecting these new scores:

CR: 680-720
WR: 700-720
M: 650-680

II's

Lit: 700-720
Spanish: 680-720

even extended time won't help the hopelessness of your case, avery. :-P jk. you're gonna be fine!

the rest of ww was superb. facebook me about europe!
