top accounting schools in U.S.

I heard uiuc was a good accounting school. is there any other college better? what were the rankings for USNEWS on business schools?

UIUC and UT-Austin. Accounting is accountings is accounting. Just go to any school and get a high GPA.

It is also nice to have Big Four recruit directly at your school, if thats what ur interested in.

USC, UPenn, Texas, Illinois

USC has an entire school just for accounting (Leventhal). It's listed as within the school of business (Marshall), but it is essentially a stand-alone school of accounting... very rigorous classes, highly competitive, and heavily recruited from by the big 4 firms.

Every ranking I've seen has consistently ranked UT-Austin as the #1 Accounting school for undergraduate studies.

yeah, but its in texas.

point well made

yeah and we're ranked for having the best looking girls.

another good point - they don't get any better than Austin.

i dunno man, i visited texas in the summer all i wanted to do was jump out of my skin and be frozen in nitrous oxide for the rest of my life.

after having lived in TX, i would agree they have hot white girls, but for those like me that are into asians, the selection is pathetic compared to so cal, which also has plenty of hot white girls just in case your tastes ever changed

Don't mess with Texas

i messed with TX and defeated it, that is why i am back in socal

Trust me on this: it doesn't matter which accouting school that you attend. There is such as dearth in accountants that any accredited school will do. HOWEVER, what does matter are your overall GPA and GPA in your major. If you have a higher overall GPA ( at least 3.4+) and at least 3.5 in accounting related courses, you will have multiple job offers.

I just finished my A.S. in Business Administration and am finishing my Bachelor's in Accounting.

Right now I have a 3.33 GPA overall, but a 3.5 GPA in business related classes (not the general education requirements).

Am I on track to having a good any good job offers when I graduate? I just joined the Accounting Society at my University to network and have a good EC besides intramural sports.

Granted_business: Yes, you are on a good track. Just keep a good GPA in your accounting classes and maintain your overall GPA, and you should be fine.

Thanks Taxguy; I appreciaite it.

I start my first accounting classes November 30th (well, I've taken the Intro Managerial and Financial Accounting classes, but the other business classes were just general business type of stuff); it's a class I could get into early.

I should get a 4.0 GPA this semester, so I'm hoping that will help boost my overall GPA.

Are you an accountant? How do you like your job?

I did study accounting as an undergraduate and got my CPA. I practiced accounting with both the IRS and major CPA firms before I left the practice to write books and give lectures.

hey, taxguy, can i ask is it better to have master degree in accounting or a cpa? Cuz i m tinking of going for masters after graduating but i heard tat a cpa has a better prospect for accounting? Can i progress in company which not an accounting firm even w/o a cpa?
