What are some of the stellar classes at Columbia? Have you overheard any seniors talking about an inspiring professor they wished they had taken a course with?

Naturally this question lends itself to current students (hellojan, BB, MC), but if entering students have heard rumors of great courses, feel free to throw in your two-cents.

Islam with Peter Awn. It’s usually taught in the spring.

Shamus Khan’s “The Social World” (he’s gone until 2012)

Karatsoreos’ Biological Psychology class (“Mind, Brain, and Behavior”) was absolutely stellar. I can’t believe how much I actually learned in that class.

Mendelson’s Intro to Philosophy class at BC was life-changing for me.

Good luck!

thanks BB. awesome response.

The best professors I’ve had have been in my department (sociology). I’d recommend taking any course with:

Gil Eyal
Priscilla Parkhurst Ferguson
Denise Milstein

Non-major:

Juliet Forshaw (music)
Peter Awn (religion)
Steve Baker (Italian and lit hum)

Also remember to use [CULPA - Columbia Underground Listing of Professor Ability](http://www.culpa.info) to screen out courses and profs.
