Top - Tier Chances and Suggestions

Hi,

I'm a high school senior - Asian/Indian. I have some good EC's and Awards, but my standardized test scores are extremely lagging. I'm going to give my stats really quick. I already EA'ed, Georgia Tech, and applied to UT Austin. I want to aim higher, maybe MIT, Rice. I have between now and January 1st to apply. Can you guys please suggest to me colleges that should be within my reach.

SAT: 700M , 690W , 640CR (2030)
ACT: 31 (34R, 28E, 30M, 32S)

I will take subjects in January.

I attend a residential HS program called at UNT (University of North Texas). Basically, it's like dual-credit, but all year long high school program. It's only for 11th and 12th grade, and I was selected out of the entire state of Texas.

Anyways, here are a couple of my EC's and Awards:

Once again, please let me know some good suggestions. Please let me know where I have a chance, and should possibly apply by January. Also, recall I didn't take subjects.

AMC Club Founder and President but no AIME? Can you post your GPA?

Our school didn’t have AMC, I brought it to our school. I introduced people to it.

4.0/4.0 back at my old HS. 3.90/4 at UNT.

I know but did you not qualify for AIME?

No I didn’t qualify. I just brought something that didn’t previously exist in our school, which is a big deal. It gave opportunity for students within my school to take part in a new STEM activity. We had AIME qualifiers, but I wasn’t one of them.

I don’t know your major, but i would consider U Mich ann arbor and UIUC. And if it’s engineering then i would also apply to Purdue as a safety. Consider UC’s also, like UCLA, berkely and San diego.

Candidly, I’m afraid your current standardized test results (both SAT and ACT) appear low for the first-tier.

@TopTier‌ , you are right. Unfortunately, they are low. I will be taking subjects in January, and I am sure I can do well on those, likely a 770-800 on Math II and Biology M. So I guess don’t have a chance for any top-tier schools I assume.

@meriks‌ , yes, I would like to apply for an engineering major. I will definitely look at Michigan. I think the time has passed for the UC’s. Thank You.

@mangoboy re #7: I’d urge you to apply – realistically, it’s only a little time and money . . . and you’ll never know if you don’t try – but I’d also suggest that you not become too “emotionally invested” in the decisions.

Thanks @TopTier‌ , “you miss everyshot you don’t take”
