Cypress Inn would be a nice choice for dinner.

I enjoyed walking along the Black Warrior River by the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater. It’s right by the school. Tuscaloosa AmphitheaterAddress:‎

Also enjoyed the Cypress Inn Restaurant on the river and their peanut butter pie.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. Is there a street/area known to be the “hang out” for the students that I could take DS to see?

I second Cypress Inn!! We had a very long day touring and were exhausted. Cypress Inn was so relaxing, sitting alongside the River and everyone so friendly that I would go there again in a heart beat. Food was amazing and the girls had fried green tomatoes for the first time. It was a very Southern experience…and one that I hope to repeat next year.

Hang out area is University as you pass the stadium
Buffalo Phil’s 1149 University Boulevard
and The Houndstooth Sports Bar‎ 1300 University Boulevard
are in the center of that area

FYI - Sports Illustrated named the The Houndstooth as the best sports bar in America.

Hang-outs close to the school…

The Strip is the area that is immediately west of the Stadium on University…near Publix grocery.

To the east of Publix, is an area filled with restaurants/coffee/ice cream shops, etc. Then, to the west of Publix is a bunch more places.

http://www.tuscaloosarestaurant.com/Restaurant-Maps/On-The-Strip.html

Bento’s (mentioned above) is on The Strip

The Strip is within walking distance since it borders the campus…and it is on the Crimson Ride route.

I think visitors should visit the Strip, but also visit Downtown (where DePalma’s, Mug Shots, etc, are) and Midtown Village (where Iguana Grill, Wings U, etc are) to give you an idea of what’s offered in the area.

Downtown…west on University…past Queen City Blvd.

Midtown Village…on McFarland, immediately south of 15th St.

We love Bento’s Sunday Morning roll and Chuck’s Fish is also a fav…Rama Jamas for breakfast…pancakes…yum!!! Although the food is just pub/bar fare it is usually full of college kids and is fun to visit (at least 1 time).

Thank you all…looking forward to a great visit!

Have fun…

Definitely drive along Jack Warner between The Amphitheater and McFarland - this where the RiverWalk is along Black Warrior River. Very pretty…get out and walk it if you like. There is parking.

The nice thing about the RiverWalk is that it borders the north side of campus…so easy for students to get to for walking, biking, etc.

gojack, last year the Houndstooth was also crowned the best college sports bar by a famous men’s magazine.

I like eating at O’Charley’s out on McFarland, but that is a chain restaurant. Cracker Barrel is at exit 76 off of I-20/59.
