I was accepted to TCNJ as a chemistry major, and it's been my first choice for a year now. However, I was accepted to Barnard College in NYC, which was my highest reach. I was not expecting to get in at all and am still wondering if it is a mistake lol. I know that TCNJ has an amazing science school, and 100% of chem majors are accepted into medical school. In addition, TCNJ has a great track record of getting jobs and getting into graduate school. But the thing is, so is Barnard. My question is, are the research opportunities at TCNJ as good as the ones I will have at Columbia? I want to get into a Phd program for probably pharmacology (although this might change), and I hear research is the most important thing for admission, but the GPA is very important too. I feel like my GPA will be much higher at TCNJ but research is better at Barnard. I like both schools for different reasons, but I'm leaning towards TCNJ. I don't know what to do!

I do know that TCNJ’s science program is just as competitive to gain admission as Barnard, and other top schools - TCNJ also has an extensive research program called the MUSE program (mentored undergraduate summer research) - students partner with a faculty, get paid a stipend and live on campus during the summer and then continue their research throughout the year - very cool. Both are great schools - but you just can’t be the education and economics of TCNJ. Good luck

Yeah and you can do research during the school year with a faculty member for credit. It doesn’t seem to be that hard to get one just as long as you talk with the prof you want to work with relatively early. Visit both schools and see which one you like better.

I attend TCNJ and I would definatley recommend Barnard! It has a much better reputation is known outside of NJ.
