My daughter has a list of matches and reaches. She's Maryland, African American, not first generation, big suburban public school. Thoughts on her chances?

GPA = 3.47
WGPA = 4.06

SAT = CR - 610, M - 650, W - 660

Taking ACT soon.

SAT II Math I -- Can't recall, maybe mid-600s?
SAT II Physics -- Maybe mid-500s

AP -- US Government in 10th grade - 3
AP -- Psychology in 11th grade - 5
AP -- Environment Science next year
AP -- Ceramics next year

ECs:

Crew team, 4 years (will not row in college due to chronic injury)
High School Psychology Journal (must author article for publication next year)
Talented Black Scholar Award in Grade 9
Talented Ceramics Artist Award (can submit slides of her pieces with application)
Summer swim team coach and swimmer

I know there are some other small ECs that aren't coming to mind right now, but those are the big ones.

Recommendations from Psychology teacher, math teacher and ceramics teacher; should be strong.

Daughter has the following for reaches:

Yale (double legacy)
Wesleyan
Duke
Georgetown
Penn
Amherst
U NC

Matches/safeties are:

Bucknell
Univ. of MD
Elon
Dickinson

What say ye?

I think your (match, safety, reach) list pretty much speaks for itself it seems that you have it figured out already haha. I row crew as well, out of boathouse row in Philadelphia, where does your daughter row? Good luck!

Ya think? The list sounds a bit ambitious to me, frankly. But hey, my daughter made the list. . . .

My daughter would string me up if I told anyone where she rows! :)

Bumpity bump bump bump . . . .

The GPAs decent, the test scores are a little on the lower side, especially for Yale. The fact that she can't crew in college is a big blow, because how rare is it that colleges find female crew applicants? I think that being African-American and a double legacy at Yale are huge helps, so I'd say that Yale is a low reach as well as Wesleyan, Penn, Duke, Georgeton, UNC, and Amherst for your daughter. Good luck! I'm applying to Wharton- could you chance me? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/534608-applying-wharton-there-any-chance.html

I think Dickinson, Univ. of MD, and Elon are good matches/safeties. Bucknell would be an even better match if she could boost her scores a little.
