Tower C Rooms?

Hi, I'm an incoming freshman this year at Pitt and I was assigned to Tower C, which was my first choice and I'm very happy about it.

However, as a girl, I'm having a bit of trouble picking and choosing which articles of clothing to bring! If anyone could please send me pictures of Tower C, or give me advice about clothing to bring for Pittsburgh, it would be great. I've seen a Tower A room while I was at Pitt Start. Is a large duffel bag + a medium duffel bag of clothing going to fit? How many drawers are in the dresser? Would a plastic "dresser" with four drawers, about 2.5 ft tall, fit in the closet to store more clothes?

How fast does it get cold in Pittsburgh? My brother said it cools down around October, so I'm assuming I should bring more fall/winter clothes than summer. I live about 5 hours away from Pitt, I'm outside of Philly.

Any help from students or parents of students would be great!

My daughter lived in Tower C last year and loved it! Keep your door open and you’ll make lots of friends. Since all those rooms are singles, everyone is in the same room.

There is a Youtube video of a Tower C room. You can try goggling it. That helped us a lot. Be prepared, however: the room is really small.

Regarding space: You have a tiny closet as you walk into the room. It doesn’t have a door, so we bought a tension shower curtain rod and a shower curtain so that the contents weren’t the first thing you saw when you walked into the room. It has a few white wire shelves. You’ll hang your things on these, as well as use the shelves for food items, toiletries, etc.

I believe the dresser has at least 4 drawers (might be 5). The bed sits up high so you can also store things underneath there.

You might get some chilly nights at the end of Sept. You might want to bring your warmer clothes and store them under the bed (in those under bed storage bins), and take them out as you need them. You probably won’t need a heavy winter coat under Thanksgiving or so.

Please feel free to ask any other questions.

Have a great year!

Here is the link for the youtube video. An extra plastic dresser might be cramped, but you could probably make it work. You’d be surprised at how much stuff you can actually fit in that small room. Only problem is that once you put all the stuff it, there’s not a lot of extra room for hanging out.

You’ll also definitely want:

–a good pair of rainboots (and umbrella/rain boat)
–a good pair of winter boots that are water proof (Uggs do NOT count)

You’ll be doing a LOT of walking so invest in good shoes! Clothes that can layer are your best bet-- sweaters and scarves are your friends! Also 1-2 pairs of tights/long socks will be good if it gets cold early. The weather changes all the time from year to year. One year we had snow in October and another year I wore a sweatshirt all semester through finals week in December. Be prepared for anything! (Including hot summer weather for the first few weeks of the year)

When I lived in Tower B, my dresser had 4 drawers. I’m assuming the same ones are in Tower C. I found the drawers to be pretty deep and I was able to fit the majority of my clothes in them, and only hung up a couple of dresses and jackets in the closet. But I also do recommend getting something you can stick under your bed to hold summer/winter clothes when they’re not needed. It’s good to have everything though because the weather really can be unpredictable.

Thank you so much everybody! You have all helped so much. I don’t have rain boots but I do have boat shoes and good winter boots, a thick winter coat and a great rain jacket. Maybe I’ll save up some money and get some rain boots. I packed about half of my winter clothes, all of my fall clothes, and half of my summer clothes. A lot of my fall/winter things are interchangeable. I might come home the October 8th weekend, so I figure I can always bring home summer clothes then and bring back more winter if it cools down. I know last year it was warm throughout the winter. Also that’s great about the four drawers! My RA just responded to me and told me my little plastic drawer unit would definitely fit. I don’t mind my closet being open, I have some pretty fabric boxes to store all of the things I wouldn’t want people to see (AKA lady products.) I have a large under bed bin, too. I think everything I have will fit really well. Thank god for this website! You guys are great!

Definitely do this. You’ll also want a pair of jeans or pants that you tuck into them. I got my boots at Laila Rowe for $25 and they’re almost 4 years old and still going strong. They’re worth the investment!
