Toyota Community Scholars - 2008-2009

Agreed. Just got mine today!!! ...Didnt say how many semifinalists there are..anyone know?

And do they want us to hand write everything on the application? I prefer typing sooo much more.

Still waiting here in Tennessee. I'm so happy for all of you. Since my last name is late in the alphabet maybe I still have a chance.

Tigerlillyx3, im sure you do :) I really dont think today was the last day to receive the reply.

As for my typing question, nvm..I read over it again and I have the option to do both.

i got mine today!!!! i live in los angeles, CA and it was postmarked 2/24/09!! express envelope from UPS and its white and flat! so excited!

Congrats, everyone!
I'm in NJ and got my yesterday! :)

here in denver with no packet yet lol.

Yes!!! I also received a packet today!

I did almost completely lose faith yesterday...but mine was also sent on the 24th.

congrats and good luck everyone!

if we type it, do we need to cut our repsonses out and paste or just turn in separate papers with the application?

Congrats UHSdebater! We knew you would. T is very excited for you.

If we type it, we need to paste it over the space they provide..it says in the directions @ the beginning.

Question about the semifinalist app~

They give us pre-addressed envelopes to give to recommenders... but the address is different from the one they tell us to send all materials so. So should we change the addresses on those envelopes to match the one that they gave us... or should the letters be sent to that separate address?

(edit) The discrepancy of addresses is also seen on the actual app. The app says to send all materials to the Princeton, NJ address, but the included congratulatory letter says to send all materials to the Trenton, NJ address. It sounds like the pre-addressed and app addresses should be correct... it outweighs the other 2-1 anyways :) but any thoughts? Has anybody noticed this and contacted the Toyota Scholars Program yet?

Hi everyone!
I finally got my letter in the mail...yay! And congrats to you all for being nominated.

Hey Food, I had the same question. But then I was thinking, you're supposed to return the questionnaire to your school anyways, so they'll probably find out which one to mail it to.

I have a question. The letter said to have the recommendors' to talk about the project we will write about in the questionnaire. Do you guys think we can write about more than one project, or just one specific project.

Thanks.

Hmm.. hopefully our school knows where to send them then! I'll probably talk to my counselor and make sure they know where the apps are going.

Alvie -- are you talking about your recommender mentioning more than that specific project, or you talking about more than one? IMO, they want you to elaborate on just one specific activity, and your recommender to 'confirm' it/elaborate, but they can mention other projects. I think that is what the recommendation data sheet says--check the bottom under "Community Recommendation".

Thanks man.

I just wasn't sure if they were actually asking all those questions for ONE specific project...

And I just read on another forum about the amount of scholarship. So is it $10,000 for each year that can be renewed for that $10,000 every year for four years? Or would it be $2,500 each year for up to $10,000? My counselor said it was $10,000 a year, like for a total of $40,000...now people are saying different....hmm.

I think its over four years. They say so somewhere..

edit: they mention it here as well: http://www.toyota.com/about/our_commitment/philanthropy/education/scholarships/tcs.html

Should be $2,500 per year for 4 years... or $5,000. Do all finalists get interviewed for the $20,000 scholarship? Like how coca-cola does it?

And we're supposed to have our recommenders mail out the letters themselves right? It sounds like they don't want the letters included in our application. I gave them out using the pre-addressed envelopes, so hopefully that address is correct...

Haha...I gave them the pre-addressed envelopes too, I'm sure it'll be fine.

Soo, where are you guys from? Where do you think you want to go next year?

We have a post office box addy in GA, so it was US Post Office mailed to me, and I received it Friday 2/27!!

Mine came on the 26th! :) But the UPS person placed it behind our screen door, which is broken so we never use it, so I just found it today!

Congratulations again to everyone.

I'm from Queens, NY Alvie and I want to go to Yale next year so I just gotta wait til March 31st. What about you guys?

Do you guys know how many 20,000 scholarships are given to the finalists?
And where is the finalists reception going to be held this year? On the website 2007 was in Louisville, KY.
