Track Recruiting

Does anyone know about track recruits? How fast do you have to be to get recruited as a sprinter for a girl? Ivy leagues?

I don't know that much about girls for Ivies. What are your PRs and I could probably tell you if you're close.

I imagine somewhere around 58 or below for the 400.

There's a thread or two in the parents forum about recruiting. One of the posters has a D who is a runner. Look for posts by Riverrunner.

^^^ id say dank is aobut right go under 58 for 400 and keep your grades up. being a track recruit can really help you get into those ivy league schools without having to deal with such cutthroat competition

No idea about the speed of the recruits from my daughter's class, but two of her friends got recruited..one for Duke, the other Georgetown.

Oh, okay. thanks for your replies
How about 100m and 200ms?

Probably under 13 and under 26. That said, I am NOT 100 percent sure, I'm not a girl and I am not a coach on any level. I am just a male sprinter who knows a few D1 girls sprinters.

Those are pretty much ball park figures. I'd really ask your coach, and see what he says. It won't hurt to email the coaches if you want to run for a certain team.

Check the college websites - most will have links to team/individual results and best times, which is very useful when trying to gauge whether your kid would be recruitable.

My S. was recruited as a sprinter a few years ago.

There are a couple of ways to determine which schools might be interested in you. Your times in the 100, 200 and 400 provide an objective basis for comparison of athletes. In the sprints, only electronic times, not hand held times will be considered. Immediately following junior season, once you have identified schools of interest, complete the athletic recruitment form on college website - we found that colleges had a specific form for track and field that allowed him to enter his events and times. If you have competitive times you will likely hear from these schools. However, there are some schools with little or no recruiting budgets, so even if you do not hear anything don't hesitate to contact the school and ask to meet with the coach - summer of junior year.

We found it helpful to peruse the college track and field meet results for the particular conferences to determine if S would fall in the top 2 or 3 runners at the bigger meets for a particular conference. Meet results are can be accessed through a college's athletic website. This really helped my S narrow down schools likely to be interested in him.

The following links to the New England High School Track and field Championships and the times listed give you a sense of what might be considered recruitable times. The top few athletes in these events are being recruited . One of the sprinters earned a free ride to Boston college.
