Track to Top 10, HS freshman...

Ok. I am a high school freshman as of 6 days ago. I recently have come to the realization that I am not practically guaranteed admission to MIT or CalTech just because I perform the best at my non-competitive school. In fact, I am going to have to really step things up...and the odds are still low. Naturally, this scares the crap out me, and I am probably going to develop an ulcer or something if I don't relax. So I'm just going to try to get this out of my system, so I can spend more time self-studying AP psych and reading books, and less time browsing CC and college websites.

Expected stats
School-(public) arts school…not too competitive...2nd best in the county,
GPA-4.0 unweighted, ~4.7 weighted
SAT/ACT-no idea, probably 32 or 33

Courses- 9th- English 1 dual enrollment (d/e)
Algebra 2 Honors (H)

10th- English 2 d/e

12th-Early Admissions @ State College of Florida

Calculus with analytical geometry 3/ differential equations
General Chemistry 1 & 2

English- 5 d/e
Math- 8 total, 2 d/e
Social Studies- 3 hs credits total, 4 d/e
Language- 4
I would be absolutely maxing out the courses offered at my school. Also, I plan to self-study several AP's including: psychology, statistics, biology, calculus BC, and maybe a physics.

Honors/Awards- Eagle Scout, Black Belt, rank=1/~200, Intel?, recognition for BIG Eagle project
EC’s- Boy Scouts, Order of the Arrow, Venturing?, Mu Alpha Theta, NHS
Sports- cross country (scholarship?)
Work- Amazon home business, pet sitting, internship (engineering??)
Volunteering-250+ hours at local VA hospital, hundreds through service projects

Prospective Major: nuclear engineering, through grad school (also, what would be my chances of grad school if I left after undergrad for marines?

Do you think I am setting myself up for Ivies, MIT, CalTech, Stanford, U of Florida, UM Ann Harbour, UW Madison, Georgia Tech, UI Urbana??
Also, I'll have about 60 college credits, so will I have to apply transfer, and will that hurt my chances?? I don't really mind retaking them, as long as I get into a Top 10 engineering...
Thank you so much!!

Wait a second, so you just finished the 8th grade and you’re already freaking out like this?! You really need to RELAX. What’s next, SAT prep in the 5th grade?

There’s no guarantee getting into any school. So, why don’t you work hard, do what you enjoy, take the classes you like and i’m pretty sure it will all work out.

Really? I’m gonna agree with tellch00. You’ll do fine, you’re motivated and obviously you’re intelligent. However, you’re setting yourself up for potential disappointment. Your GPA and SAT/ACT are impossible to predict. Unless you know every single teacher you’ll meet in high school and are absolutely sure you can ace their class, that 4.0 won’t necessarily hold. Expected stats mean nothing until you’re actually done. The ACT/SAT estimate, unless you’ve taken tests and held that score is also prone to change.

More importantly, relax. College is 4 years away, most people at my school don’t really start worrying until junior year. I didn’t even know I had to take SATs until mid-sophomore year. Enjoy high school, you make it sound as if college is everything and all your prepared high school plans are so that you can go to a college of your choice.

Finally, don’t choose a major and schools already. Although it never hurts to look, like I said, you’re a rising FRESHMAN. You’re supposed to be clueless, not have your entire high school plan set out with no flexibility. Your likes and dislikes are completely prone to change. You may decide that you want to write one day or that you want to study French. Nuclear Engineering and Engineering school may appeal now but give it some time.

My advice? Save this thread and look at it in 2 years during junior year. I can guarantee A LOT will have changed.

here we go, probably an asian bookworm without enough natural intellect to let the good grades come to him/her with minimal effort.

I think you’re setting yourself up for that ulcer you’re worried about.

Ok, I’m going to try to chillax a bit…thank you for your comments

Ann Arbor not Ann Harbour.

XD I’m guessing this is a really skilled ■■■■■… :D
