This thread is about the different means of public transportation going to and from Manhattan. I'm aware that Hofstra students can take the LIRR to Penn Station with little trouble and transfers, but does anyone know an easy way to get to Grand Central? I would like easy access to Metro North trains and Penn Station simply doesn't have any.

Transfer from Penn to Grand Central on the S shuttle. It is only one stop and runs every couple of minutes.

So…there is no REALLY easy way to get to Grand Central on public transportation from Long Island. You can:

Take LIRR to Penn, then the 1,2 or 3 one stop to 42nd St where you can get the S shuttle. It does not run from Penn…it runs between Times Square and GC.

Take LIRR to Jamaica and transfer to Hunters Point. Then take the 7 two stops.

Take LIRR to Atlantic Ave in Brooklyn. Then take the 4 or 5. This requires the fewest transfers but the trains run local so it takes the longest.

My H works over by GC and he takes the train often enough that these are the three routes he recommends.
