tranferring out of SUNY

hi,
i'm planning to transfer out of stony brook university after one year. since this is a very big school and all my classes are 250+ people it's really hard for me to get to know my professors and for them to even know my name. any tips on that? also, im planning on tranferring to a LAC in the east coast, such as bryn mawr, barnard, etc. how high would my GPA need to be in order for me to have an okay chance. also, how essential is it that i am very active on campus? it's hard to find things i enjoy to do here, since everyone is just into partying and partying some more.

Yeah, that's one of the drawbacks of going to a SUNY...you can't get the indivualized attention you need. If you want to get to know your professors try introducing yourself to them after class if you can and ask them questions about their lecture for that day and do it often, but not so much that you become annoying. If they don't stay after class, you can try emailing them, "Hi Professor X, My name is ABC and I'm in your (subject) class on (day/s) from (time). blah blah blah...you get the point. However, since they do teach over a thousand students I'm not sure if they'll e-mail you back, but it's worth a try.

There's got to be something that you could enjoy doing on-campus b/c it would enhance your transfer application. So, try and find something you can bear for a semester, just so you can write it on your application. :)

yo dude, I'm right with you. I said to hell with Stony Brook after being screwed by it last year. I have a gt to Cornell CALS, which I hope I can still get even though I'm kind of under the requirement right now from the SB transcript. But hopefully if I have a strong enough fall semester, all is forgiven. Anyway man, Stony Brook screwed me, get out before they screw you.
