Greetings from T-town! Left Hawaii last night, arrived in Birmingham around 12:30 and within 3 and a half hours of touching down had checked into our hotel in Tuscaloosa, obtained son’s Alabama Action Card, got him a P.O. box, and opened an account for him at the Alabama Credit Union. Badda bing, badda boom.

Everyone (and I mean everyone) we encountered was so efficient, welcoming, and helpful. It was marvelous reinforcement of what impressed us so much during our visit in February.

The campus looks gorgeous, it’s hotter than Hades, and we couldn’t be happier to be joining the Bama family. Roll Tide and safe journeys y’all (I just had to say that).

Have a great time! Thanks for the updates. I really enjoy reading what all the parents are busy doing right now so I know what to expect next year.

Thanks for the update Malanai - sending DS and DH your way tomorrow morning! We are so lucky to have this board to track everyone, makes it feel less far away! :)

We’re packed also. Just finished and I am exhausted. Going down to Northern Alabama to stay with family tomorrow night then on to Tuscaloosa Saturday afternoon. Safe journey for everyone! ROLL TIDE!

DH arrived from business trip, unpacked, repacked. Now if I can get DS to come home (last minute friend outing) to finalize carry-on. Suitcases are by the door, package pick-up/Birmingham shopping list is ready. Wondering if rental car will be big enough. Holding it together for am flight BAMA BOUND. As friend said, “we’re successful parents, our kids are heading off for college, confident and independent.” Need to rent “Ready to Launch” movie.

Ooops your right, “Failure to Launch”. That’s what we’re trying to avoid.
Siglio - I guess your right, subconciously I’m feeling like we’re Ready to Launch.

I don’t think we need to worry about our kids being ready to launch. After all, we raised them, right? :)

Besides which, I’m becoming more convinced every day that a student has to almost go out of his or her way to fail, with all the support at UA. Even the postmistress at the Ferguson Center post office is in on the UA plot to nurture our kids. To wit, she eyed my son’s driver’s license and said, “Wow, Hawaii. Now don’t you worry, we’ll look after you and make sure you’re taken care of. And if you have any questions or problems, y’all just come on down here and ask me personally. I’ll see to it that it gets handled.” She wasn’t talking about post office business. She meant ANY problem.

It may seem like a small thing, but that sort of stuff almost never happens in my home town. Roll Tide!

T minus 20.5 hours. Checklist nearly complete for the BBfromNC 3 car caravan. All that is left to do is pack the cars. Glad to see that I will have help with that task. Oh but wait! Wife just informed me that my son will be disc golfing all day and daughter will be getting facial in the morning and some kind of Brazialian treatment for her hair later on. Seeing how big the piles are, it will be fun packing. Like last year, to put the finishing touches on packing my Daughters car, I shut all the doors and finished packing through the sunroof.

Malanai: great to hear you made it safely and that T Town is once again not letting me down in their hospitality! That has always been the case. Just wanted to correct one thing though. It’s “badda boom, badda bing”. What kind of honorary Noo Yawker are you?! I am jealous that you are already there.

Mike and Malanai: See youse tomorrow eve. Just don’t hold it against me that I thought Mike was a he and Malanai was a she! I stand corrected!

Just picked up a zillion parcels from Paty. Everything was there, the student attendant was super nice and helpful (of course), and the hand truck we shipped there came in very handy.

Note to those picking up from Paty: The delivery center is in the front of the building on McCorvey Drive. We parked right in front (probably illegally, but nobody hassled us), and it expedited loading immensely. If you park in the parking lot at Paty, it’s on the backside of the building, at the opposite end from the delivery center.
